Last year I tried to get together a hog hunt here in LA on some local public land. As many hogs as there were last year, there are even more this year. I killed 3 in 3 days last week a rimfire, squirrel hunting.
Last year thing just did not work out as far as timing and different SILLY regulations. But this year, I have taken those into account.
Here is a link to last years post with majority of the details.
http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=139794#000000
I would like to keep this group on the smaller side(no more than 10).
This hunt will have to happen in January so we can chase both Hogs and Deer. If anyone is interest, please let me know. I would love to share a camp fire with you guys. I can guarantee pig sightings, but can't guarantee we will kill any! ;)
Just spoke with the local wildlife agency and the best deal would be to go one of the last 2 weekends in January and each individual would need to buy a $36/day deer license. This would allow you to shoot both deer and hogs with a bow and cover your wildlife permit as well. I hope we can get a small group coming this way.
Sounds like a blast!
I may be in depending on the timing, but don't worry if I cant work it out. I have one weird and crazy work schedule.
added more info in the original post!
Daniel: I was on the list last year. Would love to, but need to check a few things out before committing.
Wayne
Wayne,
Come on! I hate that things didn't work out last year. This year we have it more figured out, at least i think. Pig numbers are through the roof this year. I got on pigs every day I tried. Some days I just chose to deer hunt instead.
That sounds awesome! Unfortunately, while teachers do get some decent time off, we don't get to choose when it is.
Brad,
you are right my friend. I am a teacher as well! You're in missouri, it wouldn't be but a manageable drive in one day! Come on man! IF you wanted to come down sooner, come on!
I'd be interested as long as it doesn't interfere with our youth season. I take my kids hunting almost everyday of youth season to take up my slack and fill the freezer! I'll read thru last years thread and get back to you.
I'm very interested. I love in south arkansas, about 2 hours from Monroe. I'm a chicken farmer and scheduled to sell birds the middle of January and should be at least a month before next flock. So end of jan is perfect. I am fairly green to trad but have killed several hogs with archery equipment. Sounds fun and I'll keep in touch.
It is open to whoever! We can have this hunt on any of the following weekends..
1. January 15,16,17
2. Jaunary 22,23,24
3. January 29,30,31
Which ever weekend best fits y'all, let me know!
Hmm this is looking promising let me check my shift schedule.
This is sounding good. If I was come down what is the camping like? Would I be able to get by with a floor less pyramid style tent? I use this tent in AK.
Either of the later 2 dates would work better for me. That's after our youth season is over.
Hey Marty, if it works out maybe we can camp together if that will help out on how much gear you would have to bring. Plus I could pick you up in Shreveport on the way, and drop you off on he way back. ( might be cheaper flying into Shreveport and would save you a car rental )
Hmm I might need to rent a car from br. Might be too cold to take motor cycle for 3 hours lol
Absolutely! there will be a shower house and electricity hooked up to the camps. My father in law has a possible 2 beds, and I have a pop up camper I can pull down there that has a queen and king bed in it. Bring whatever you want, but we will have a good bit. I have 1 confirmed so far.
I am getting excited already!
I'm in. Like Randy, the latter two weekends are best for me.
I am definitively interested, When you get the dates down I can see if they will fit in my work schedule.
I am 90% sure that I am in. It would be great to see old friends and meet some new ones!

it is for sure either of the last 2 weekends of january. I can meet y'alls needs if you will let me know which is better for y'all.
I'll send you a PM later. Hoping to make this.
Joe
When you say either of the last 2 weekends, do you mean that it will be both. If so, I am in, I just know that I will have to work one of those weekends.
pdk25,
it will be whichever one is best for the most people. Trying to make the most out of it and get as many people there as possible.
Daniel, put me down for the last weekend.
Here's a vote for the 2nd last weekend.
One thing I will ask is if you are for sure in, please imply that here. I am getting a lot of messages and can only hold 60. Plus it will help us keep a running count.
I'm in! I'll PM you my info.
I am in for the second to last weekend, if that is the weekend selected.
I'm in! Looking forward to meeting you all.
Joe
I'm in.
I have a job that might be starting up in some time in January. If it does not start I am in. But I will not be able to commit until it gets closer.
C'mon Kip.... You gotta come!!! I can pick you up!
We have confirmed the date. It is Jan 22,23,24.
Darn I was about to post I can maybe do last weekend. Oh well maybe next year. I am working 22,23,24. Good Luck Everybody!
Flight and car booked! Really looking forward to this hunt and sharing a campfire with all of you.

Fantastic news!!! I promise not to snore if we bunk together....LOL.
Fellas, this is going to be an awesome trip. If you have not received an email from me about the thread we will posting the info in, please pm me. I think I sent it to everyone today.
Where is the property in l.a.I lived there for years and the only place was the channel islands mainly catalina
IT is in columbia, la.
Daniel, would there be room for one more? I will not be able to commit right now because my work schedule can get crazy but IF my schedule clears could I join the hunt?
That would be Beouf WMA, 50,000 acres or so.
Jackson Bienville WMA south of Ruston, LA is 32,000 acres and has a thriving hog population as well. I used to bowhunt it for hogs during late January but quit once they made it legal for small game hunters to shoot hogs with small game loads. I was lucky and survived two instances when I was mistaken for a hog by squirrel hunters. Fortunately the squirrel hunters made sure of their target before shooting. That still doesn't give one a warm and fuzzy feeling looking at the front end of a rifle.
I'm down for a little hog and deer killing, put me on the list.
I'll even talk to my old buddy Kip and see if that Ville Platian and I can't rustle up a little Cajun food for these boys one night. Might be good gumbo weather.

I think this is everyone that has said "I'm in". PM's are good, but i had to delete a lot so i may have missed someone on this list. If that is the case, please let me know. That is 10 people, as well as a few locals. I would like to keep it at this number for now. Each of you should have a pm with a link to our thread as well as the password. This hunt is going to be a blast. I will guarantee pig sightings, but i can not guarantee you getting a shot. These pigs get "educated" all year from hunters like myself. Either way, it will be a blast!
Daniel, I posted I was in back on the 8th. Hope that still stands.
:campfire: I can't wait to get down there!
awbowman, I've had the pleasure of tasting Kips cooking once at Hog Heaven....it's nearly as good as his company!!!

sorry, I corrected it.
Joe, it is going to be an absolute blast! I am looking into taking that friday off, or atleast a 1/2 day and coming down as early as possible. Our days off are weird. You only get 2 personal days, so I try to save them for emergencies.
Looking forward to meeting you all. Will be good to see you again Darren!
As i mentioned one of the earlier posts, you should all have a link to a thread that is designed just for the ones going. It will help us all understand the lay of the land, etc. Typically in that time the ground is incredibly wet, which helps us be more silent while approaching.
I don't want to wish away deer season, but i would be lying if I said I was not really excited about this hunt.
Hi Daniel, still haven't got it.
Daniel: are you referring to last year's special thread with password?
Thanks!

Sorry I missed you. I will be going down there as soon as Ali get over this staph infection. Will send everyone a pic of a hog...hanging..
No worries. I hope you are OK?
I am okay. I have been plagued with staph for a little while now. I am not sure what to do to fix it.
Dermatology and Infectious Disease are not my field of expertise, but I hope they get you sorted out.
I hate to miss this one!

Fellas,
