I have a 2008 Montana on the way, it still has the original string, so I want to replace with something that will improve performance. Suggestions appreciated

Ten ring string.

Unless you are going from a way overbuilt string, you won't get much if any noticeable increase in performance--even with a "skinny" string. Easy to check--shoot through a chronograph.
However, with a well made string you can get less noise, less shock, better stability, and better durability. My favorite is 18-20 strands (depending on what type nock you are using) of BCY-X.

I second ten ring string. I ordered two strings for my recurve from Allen a couple months ago and he is a great guy to do business with. I would also highly recommend getting his tie on nocks, he offers them for free, they are lighter than a standard brass nock, and they are easily adjustable.

Ten ring 61" fast flight is what you need. Allen will hook you up.

The original string is Fast Flight of some kind, more than good enough!!

Unless it hasn't been shot much at all, the original string needs replaced because it's at least 7 years old.

When I had my Montana, I changed to a skinny string and perceived some performance gain. Then I trimmed the bow tips and noticed a greater performance gain.

It just so happens that I have an 61" 18 strand fury string made by Allen on the site. The serving is .110 and you may have it. Just PM me your address.
Merry Christmas,
Dave
