I have a Northern Mist Shelton that I love and my pup chewed the tip. Anybody know if it can be salvaged in any way, shortened or something or is it a goner? I think I already know the answer...
Lucky the bow was busted 'cuz you might have used it to shoot the puppy.
I bet it can be saved......maybe a bit shorter. Contact Steve he should be able to tell you one way or the other.
My wife was amazed at my restraint joe...but he happens to be turning in to a solid pointer so I gave him a pass....this time.
Use a crock pot. As far as the bow goes I'd check with Steve. I love my 66" Shelton. An old friend had a Robertson longbow that he broke off the tip. He called Dick and he told my friend he could shorten the bow and restore tips but there would be a charge. My friend ended up doing it himself. I think the bow ended up about 8 pounds heavier but shot fine.
:biglaugh:
Sounds like my GSP. Send Steve a picture & call.
Shortening the bow might be a viable option, depends on how far down the limb it is damaged. I know of several bows that were fixed/saved by being shortened. You do need to be careful with the tiller and don't expect it to feel/shoot quite the same.
I can related to both your pain and restraint regarding the pup. I had a Lab eat the rawhide backing off an osage selfbow I had built for my first Alaskan moose hunt.
Means new bow and maybe new dog I think!
Hud he is a GSP....literally the craziest dog I've ever owned but he is quickly becoming my best friend so I'll let him slide. It certainly isn't a breed for the impatient but he sure does make me laugh.
My Chocolate Lab pup chewed the limb tip on one of my recurves a bunch of years ago. It wasn't totally destroyed, just had some good bite marks in it. I filled in the bit marks with JB weld, and it held up nicely.
I'm not a bowyer but he might be able to replace the tip overlays but if not maybe shorten the limbs and then lower the weight and refinish just to save the bow.
Precisely why I don't have a dog. My patience would have been pushed beyond the breaking point and I don't like to think of the results.
Been laughing as I watch this unfold. . . Your question: "Is it a goner?" Been waiting for the follow up: "Did you mean the bow or the dog?" :bigsmyl:
Dan in KS
Haha KSdan....may have been something subconscious in that
A good reason to have a bow rack. Our GSD pup managed to chew the legs of a very old desk. When I get the time I will replace them. I had a bow shorten once, it shot ok but my son moved n in weight so we gave it away.
I think your puppy has declared himself as the ALPHA DOG in your house.
I have a German short hair as well, she's destroyed 2 nice 3D targets and about anything else I leave out in the yard. The other night my fiance talked me into letting her into our garage since it was so cold and she chewed out all of my washing and dryer hoses! I'm just lucky that I considered it a risk and shut off the water!
How bout a photo?
I have heard of dogs eating your homework but this is a first I heard of bows. You must have a very low bow rack.

Yeah let's see a photo of that pup. Our puppy completely shredded the 'Obedience' book we had. Ironic!
Yep had the exact same thing happen one time. Mine was still shoot able but she sure uglied it up lol. All of my bows are on the wall now. Back when this happened I kept them under the bed.
So how did the pup get the bow down from the bow rack....
never heard that excuse for not getting out hunting before, usually its something like My wife........
Would have much preferred the dog to have eaten my homework.
Sorry for comment above, I feel your pain, had several bow issues this year also and it hurts both emotionally and the pocket book.
