I thouroughly enjoyed this read. So much so that I thought it might be fun to pass around. "Going Trad" is one of David Petersen's more recent books, primarily about elk hunting in CO. Although there are a couple chapeters on Bear and Turkey, it is mostly about Elk. Otherwise known as Elkheart, I enjoy Petersens pespective on hunting, conservation and nature.
If you are interested in reading the book put your name and address on here and we'll get this pass around going. Each member should ship it to the member who is signed up below them on the thread. Once you recieve the book, sign your name and where you're from inside the front cover. It'll be neet to see where the book goes! Once you're finished with the book mail it to next member. I'll put my name and address in the back of the book, but I'll also monitor this thread to see who is the last member to sign up. That person will then ship it back to me.
Oh, and BTW, the book is starting this journey with a beat up cover - for whatever reason it just didn't hold up at all. So don't worry if you pull it out of the package and it looks like it's been through the 3rd grade already! Just try not to drop it in the bath! LOL I've done that before!
I truely hope folks enjoy the read like I did.
Thanks, Marc
Generous offer. I'm in.
I will PM you my address.
Thnaks
Got it Hermon. It'll go in the mail today!
I'd like to read it after Glen Hermon. Thanks :archer2:
I'd like to go after you Ron....I'm just finishing up "A Sand County Almanac"...for about the 20th time.
"How to Raise a Wild Child" by Scott Sampson is next on my shelf.
Please count me in.
Thanks Marc. I PM'd you my address.
Thanks Mark, PM'd my address
Thanks for the interest everybody. I sent the book out today to Hermon. When Hermon is done with it, he should send it to ronp, and so on.
If you don't want to list your address here in the thread, then go ahead and send it to the member above you on the list. I don't have the book anymore, so don't send my your address. Send it to the person who should have it before you. Does that make sense?
Thanks for participating everyone! I'm glad I can share what I thought was a good read.
Cheers, Marc
Bucknut, I sent you my info.
Marc, thanks for sharing!
Weekend bump
Sweet. I'm in! PM'd my info to you Marc but just saw that you wanted it sent to the member above so just disregard.... I'll send it to RJonesRCRV. Thanks!
No worries Tim!
I just finished the book and will send it on to Miles tomorrow or Thursday, depending on the snowy weather here.
It's a really good read and I enjoyed it! :campfire:
Thanks Marc!
Would love to be included. Who do I send my info too? I have never done a PM on this site so someone will have to tell me how that is done. Thanks!!
sent you a PM.
This was a good book. Probably the closest I'll ever get to go elk hunting. :archer2:
Very generous, thanks!
PM sent to bucknut.
I would like to get in...

I finished the book last night. Very good read....I gotta get serious about getting out to hunt with my brother in Durango!!!!
Wish I had time to re-read it....it's hard trying to read at night after being exhausted from two little ones running around. I found myself dozing off most nights after a couple pages and having a fuzzy memory of what I had read the night before.

Thanks so much Miles for sending the book, I picked it up yesterday at the P.O., began reading it last night, and just finished it.
Whoever is to receive it after me, please send me your mailing address and I'll send it along.
Just thought I'd check in with the book pass around... Is it still getting read? Anyone else interested in reading it? If so, please add you name to the list and PM the fellow before you.
I'm glad everyone is getting something out of it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It makes me want to read David Petersen's other books!
Cheers
I'm in the middle of it now. I'll speed up and get it to the next guy. Thanks again!
This is a really neat idea and the book is wonderful. My hunting buddy has all his books and loaned them to me last year. I hope we can encourage more great voices, such as Mr. Peterson's, to put there thoughts and experiences into print! Sure makes those winter hunting withdrawals more easy to bear! Might be a great thing too purchase copies of this book to keep in your personal collection (as support to such authors) or devote to a library somewhere (I still remember being about 10 years old and finding 'Hunting the Hard Way' in my grade school library). This could motivate others into the sport. Also, if you don't purchase a book such as this, consider giving toa conservation organizations (such as Dave himself promotes), it will preserve those Backcountry (spots) us Hunters and Anglers love and dream about.

I just got word that book is on way to me and I think I am last on list......what should i do with it? anyone else interested?
Chris,
I'd be interested in reading it when you are finished if it is still in play.
I'll PM my address.
I'm glad folks are enjoying the read. I just ordered a couple more of David Petersen's books: Ghost Grizzlies and A Man Made of Elk. I'm excited to start them! I think David's a great writer and I like his ideals. I didn't know his friend and mentor was another great writer I've enjoyed most of my life, Ed Abby.
Keep the book circulating!
Cheers-
Joseph,
I'd like a go at it as well...
I'll pm you my address.
Thanks,
Rodd
I would like to take advantage of this as well. Great idea Marc.
Not sure, but I think I got skipped. No biggie still would like a turn. I'm a fast reader :bigsmyl:
Can anyone compare this to "A Man Made of Elk"? I love petersen's writing and philosophy, even if I don't always agree. He obviously has a lot of love and respect for the hunt and the animals we pursue. I miss his column in TBM. He has another book called "On the Wild Edge". It is more of a general book about nature and his life following the seasons of the year, but of course fall and elk season is the highlight of the year.
I just got word that the book is on it's way to NW Missouri! :bigsmyl:
Anyone not read the book yet that's interested? It's on its way to me and I'll send it along after I read it. If so let me know where to ship by PM. Thanks.
Damon
Id love to read it! I'll send my address.
Jake will you send it to me when you are done? I'll pm you
Put me back in the hat. I will take it after Matty.
Just got the book in the mail! Lol it's pretty tattered. But I'm excited to read it! Thanks for the offer.
Just checking in on the pass around... I know the cover is tattered, but it's the content that matters, right?!
Also, I have purchased and read several other of David Petersen's books and absolutely recommend all of them!!!
Man Made of Elk
Elkheart
Heartsblood
Do you something for a friend or yourself this holiday season and pick up these excellent reads! www.davidpetersenbooks.com (http://www.davidpetersenbooks.com)
I don't always agree with Petersen, he is very opinionated (aren't we all), but I really like reading his books. He makes me think, and that is important for all of us.

Is the book still being passed around. If so, I'd like to get in on it.

I just sent it to Connor he should either have it already or will be getting it today.
