been getting some bad winds so far this season. last nite a rare SE!
do you all find that deer sit tight under unusal winds?
Sounds like you were in a tent with some of my hunting buddies :scared:
Seriously, I kind of like different winds once in awhile. They give me a chance to hunt some stands that I normally can't when we have more normal winds. I always try to have stands available for whatever the wind direction might be.
I live in SE Texas in an area that is relatively flat but with heavy pine and hardwood forest. Our prvailing winds are from the S, SW, W, NW and N, so I place my stands typically on the East side of where I expect them to come by. This normally works for me but this year I have had several days with an East or NE wind. Like Whip, I have other stands as my back-ups for the freaky winds.
Although nothing has worked for me this year. I have sat 12 times this year so far and haven't seen one deer yet. We had about 2" of rain yesterday after a month of drought. Hopefully, this rain will change their moving habits.
Good luck.
had a small 8pt under my stand sunday morn with a se wind.....and 2 does that evening

Dang! someone beat me to it. :D

depends on the severity of the wind. Typically, if it's a really harsh wind, I don't see as many moving as I would with just a light wind/breeze or a calm day. Heavy winds negate many of a deers key defense mechanisms (sound, smell and ability to pick out unusual movement.)
44,
I feel your pain.I was complaining about it my wife this morning.
Strangely enough, I have seen 10 deer come by me from the down-wind side! Wierd.
