I'm looking for input on recurves that are 64 or 66" long. Are there any that you recommend? If you own any, give me some comments on them.
Your thought are appreciated!
Thanks,
Dirtguy

I shoot a 64" Palmer recurve. Smooth and fast! I love it!
-
Pretty much won't shoot anything shorter for normal hunting. Have a short bow for small game in the brush or turkey from a blind. I shoot a 64" Longbow now but my last hunting bow was a 64" Dryad ACS RC bow.
-
Just sold a 64" Zipper, if it had been 5 pounds lighter I would have never sold it. I also still have a Bear Mag T/D with #3 limbs to make a 64" bow.......just a joy to shoot and almost silent.
-
I shoot 64-68" recurves all the time. My background comes from target competition, so I am very spoiled by the performance of longer bows.
After years of begging him, Dave Windauer finally broke down and made me a 66" Schafer Silvertip takedown.
Jack Howard made and preferred 66" recurves.
To each their own obviously, but longer bows are just so much easier and more fun to shoot for me.
But I have friends that love short bows as much as I love the long ones, sooooooo......

Stalker Wolverine, Bob Lee, or Schafer Silvertip. All three sensational and unique in their own ways. The 64" Stalker with the static limbs is hybrid longbow quiet and deceptively fast, likely the most affordable of the three I mentioned. All are winners.
-
throw Wes Wallace in there too. Blacktail if you're feeling extra fancy.
-
I shoot a Bob Lee 64" take down recurve, 57# and it is smooth through the draw and dead in the hand. A fabulous bow. It is the Hunter model with the impregnated ash riser.
-
I shoot and love my 1963 70" Hoyt Pro Medalist, very accurate !
-
I shoot a 64 inch ILF recurve. I love it. I don't have any clearance problems when I am hunting even when kneeling or crouching.
-
i have 2 that are 64 inch...one 62 inch...and a host of others that are vintage brownings in all sizes. I have hunted with 66 and 68" longbows and selfbows in same stands as with 64 and 62" recurves...both tree stands and ground blinds. No issues.
My 62 is a Jeffery Royal Hunter...first recurve...1992
64" Habu...got it in 1999
58" Wolfer...got in 2014
rest are from 56 to 62...and are vintage Brownings such as Explorer, Explorer I, Explorer II, Safari II, Wasp, Cobra II.
Robertson Fatal Styk, Habu, Blacktail are three of the best I have ever shot or owned. I think I would rate the Robertson recurve as the best all around of the 15+ I have owned over the past 20+ years.
-
64" Widow here.
-
72" Bear Tamerlane HC 300 - It was the top Bear bow in 1969 and still shoots like it.
66" Wes Wallace Stealth - Smooth draw to 29", great craftsmanship and finish.
-
My hunting bow for moose and elk is a 64" ILF RC.
17" riser with XL limbs.

I recently picked up a 1957 Kodiak, 64", and with a b55 string and the right brace height, it's longbow quiet. I too, find longer bows nicer to shoot. My DL is just over 28", but even with a 60" recurve, I will feel finger pinch. :dunno:
-
I really enjoy long recurves. I have a 66" Ben Pearson Pinto that is my primary shooting/hunting bow right now. I find I like 64" best though. There are valid reasons long recurves are preferred by target archers, and they work just fine for hunting too
-
I like a Toelke 64" Super Static that I have.
-
64" is my favorite bow length. I've got a 64" Big Foot Sasquatch and a 64" Quinn Stallion. I normally hunt the cold weather with the Sasquatch. It's triple carbon, quiet as a mouse and really quick..also draws smooth and easy..which I really like in cold weather.
-
I shoot a Wes Wallace Mentor, 64", 31+" draw. Smooth for my long draw and stable.
-
I have a 64" Brackenbury Drifter and a 62 " Jeffery Raven. The Brack is my primary bow, a lot of fun to shoot, hard hitter and stable in the hand. This bow loads up right from the get-go where as my Jeffery seems load throughout the draw. Both good bows. I doubt I'll go shorter with any bows I may buy in the future.
-
I have a Roseoak Ace on order that will be 63 inches...and my Kodiak Deluxe is 64 inches...I have had and still have several 66 inch vintage bows...a 64 inch Blacktail Snakebit was one of my nicest bows

I just got Ron's 64" Zipper and it's the best shooting bow I've ever shot, and dead silent. I love it so much I'll be ordering an extra set of limbs for it and selling all my other bows.
-
I just purchased a 64 inch Wes Wallace recurve. I have always shot 60-62 inch recurves. Wes kept telling me how much I would like the 64 inch length. He was 100% right. It's smooth and very comfortable on the draw.

Mine actually love Africa :D
Black Douglas Border recurve from Scotland 64" 61# at 31". Really effective.

And 64" Termatt's RER the Vital

I have a franken bow recurve that is 64". Used journey limbs. I love it. Very forgiving.
-
64" Border Covert Hunter, undrawn shorter than a common 60" Recurve. Fantastic bow in every way.

Glad you like it

Out here in cali we almost all stick with longer bows. I have stalkers, silvertip, and ILF rigs. I love 64". I started with 60"bows but will not go back.
-
I remember at one point I had a 64" Brackenberry, it was about 53# @ 30" it was a real nice bow to shoot.
-
When I use my Bear B handles and #3 limbs, that's a 64" bow. Hunted for many years with a 66" Asbell Bighorn.
-
64" and 66" Covert Hunters, smooth and fast
-
Both my tips are 64 -
-
Blacktail Bows.....look no further
-
I shoot a 64" recurve made by Al Kimery of Tradition-Al bows. I draw 30" and the 64" is much smoother than a 62". I have pulled this bow to 32" with no hint of stack. Al makes a really nice bow for a great price too.
-
74"static of my own design. Swallows even a 38" arrow.
-
I hunt with a 64" Blacktail Elite VL, and have a 64" Brackenbury Drifter I bought from Jim in 1986.
-
I use black widow PSAX 62 inch and PL 64 and 66 inch, Bear takedown B riser 60 and 64 inch.
-
64" Bear takedown..64" Super Kodiak.. I like the longer bows alot
-
I just received a new 64" Palmer and that thing shoots real well. Smooth drawing and hits really hard. Good luck
-
I have a 64" Wes Wallace Mentor I use a lot. Very nice bow and my draw is just over 28".
-
I had a 64" recurve but gave it to my son. It was too long for me.

64" Black Widow MA II - 54#28
The most stable, quiet and fast bow, which sends one with authority to behold :)
Only Place I dont use my BW is bowfishing from a canoe, otherwise the lenght of the bow has not been an issue.

Thank you all for your input. I now wonder why more of us don't shoot longer bows! I will be buying a 64 inch takedown recurve with two set of limbs. One set will draw #50 at my 31 inch draw, the other #45 for practice and target work.
This has been very helpful!

I've always favored and considered a 64" a minimum length for my 29.5" draw. Mathematically you get the best of both worlds. I'm about to get a Bear Takedown in a B handle and #3 limbs. I also have a 1973 Bear Grizzly in 58" for blind hunting. I've owned recurve bows up to 70" as well.
