Title: Stone Head Buck revisited
Post by: longbowman on November 24, 2015, 09:20:00 AM
I wanted to add to this post a little info that a bunch of Tradgang members had sent me private messages on before.

This buck was taken using our "One stick" stand method I described a couple of years ago. When I stand under this particular stand it touched my head. I'm 5' 8". The buck was shot at 4 yds.

I killed one of my best buck this year with a stand at 7' using one stick. This makes 18 deer between the two of us out of stands less than 8' high and I had 19 different buck into mine this year without getting busted once.

I'm adding this just to let those who think you need to be nose bleed high that you don't. Thought you would be interested.

I set mine pretty low too...not quite that low though. It doesn't take much if your set up is good.

I think I had talked to you about this a while back...  You was to post a pic or something. I don't remember what the thread was called.
That's awesome though. I hunted a few times this season with only 1 stick. I added a foot stirrup to get little extra height.

Totally confused. Can someone explain or give link to the original thread.

Here's his stone head buck from this year again.  Lowrider, a couple of years back I posted about my son and I only using a single tree stick for our stand heights and the success we've had doing so.  It raised a bunch of interest and so I thought I would just add it to this years posting as a reminder.

have you recently reposted the information about how you set up your stand?  My best stand is only about 8' to the bottom.  My very best stands are 14" deep holes in the ground, I shot my deer at 8 feet this year and my feet never left the ground   :)  .

I'm always interested to hear new tactics though

Frank,

Can you repost that link? or refresh your technique for those wanted to know more?  Sound interesting.

Good info. here, I learned this myself last week, it really worked good. I didn't kill anything yet but I had some in close that never spotted me. My own hesitation kept me from getting a shot.

I do about 50% or more of my hunting from the ground these day, anyhow just wanted to see what technique you and your son are using.
