Well I'm from Canada and I've been thinking about going to Montana one of these years to try for antelope. Can anyone tell me what it's like? Is it hard to get permission, do ranches offer a bed and breakfast option and hunting on their land? What are costs like etc.
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks
I lived in MT. in 1973-74 and hunted antelope and mule deer in the same areas there. There is one heck of a lot of BLM (Bureau of Land Management)land in eastern MT. Don't know what it's like now with private lodging/hunting but back then I never had any trouble obtaining permission on the private ranches where I asked. Again there is a lot of public land there and if you contact the Division of Fish Wildlife and Parks you can get contact info for Regional Offices and individual Wildlife Biologists who are always great sources of information.
Check out the Block Management link on the Montana Fish & Game website. It is a great program......used it in the early 2000's and shot some nice antelope. In a nut shell, it allows you to hunt ranches for NO trespass fees. All you have to do is contact the rancher or in some cases, the Fish & Game, to fill out an access permission slip.
X2 on the Block Management program. I've had some great hunts on it.
