So as I'm packing up the night before, my wife says you'll get one tomorrow. I smile and just say i'll take what the woods gives me. So the next morning I had plenty of action, 3 different bucks all in range but no shots. As the action begins to calm down and I sit there shaking my head wondering how bad was my luck that I couldn't loose an arrow, I hear a deer behind me....

Its a small 3 point Ive seen before and passed on, hes bedded down about 20 yds behind me. Ive noticed how he just shuffles through the woods before with no real purpose or energy, i thought he was just a dumb youngster. A while later he gets up and wanders out in front of my stand 9yds quartered away looking the other direction. This is the perfect shot!

I instantly see blood and he bounds off about 10 yds and then stops and slowly walks away, tail flicking

so far, so good... looks like you made a nice shot. What a nice day in the woods. Nice to have a supportive wife too.
I see him falter and go down in the pines about 60yds away. I text my wife a pic and she sends back a congrats, I tell her he's not the one i wanted but hell be good eating. I give thanks to the woods and him, grateful that i made a good shot and then begin the chores of getting him on out.

I butcher all my own deer, as I'm skinning him out I cant help but notice he has no fat on him. As i skin down legs and chest i discover a wound, not my exit wound. It turns out this guy was either shot with a .22, gored, or something. There is a hole right by his heart about the size of a slug where a rib is shatterd and hide is punched through. WALKING AROUND with a HOLE in his chest. No wonder he didn't have much energy or fat, not sure about his chances of making the winter. Maybe the woods put him there and none of the others for a reason. As I bring in all the meat i tell my wife I think i got the "right" deer. Enjoy boys be safe Joe

By the way Joe, I killed a hog and a buck with the zwickey you sent me but sadly destroyed it when pulling it out of the deers spine. They're one of my go to heads now. Thanks again.
That's what it's all about. Being in the right place at the right time and letting nature take it's course! Good job!!!

Congrats Joe, and a great story.
Say, is that a Cabelas Wooltimate vest? I ask because I have some points to burn and those are on sale right now...just wondering what you experience is with it (if it is a Wooltimate). The lady at the local store said they seem to be phasing out that line for the new one that is competing with the Sitka stuff...gotta get one before they are gone probably.
Thanks,
