Title: Can anybody recommend a mountain lion outfitter?
Post by: Arctic Hunter on November 17, 2015, 11:01:00 PM
I'm thinking about going mountain lion hunting next year or 2017. Can anybody recommend a trad friendly outfitter that they've used?

Thanks bow man. I looked at them. Only issue was they were booked through 2017. Is it worth waiting until 2018 just to go with them?

I second Full Draw.

Fred Eichler uses/endorses our decoys so I may be a little biased....I've not hunted lions with Full Draw but I have hunted elk and turkeys there. They run a very good operation. Ethical and honest and very hard working.

I was disappointed to not be able to book elk again until 2017 but I did it. It seems like the good ones are always booked so you have to wait or get lucky.

Hope you have a good hunt no matter where you go.

I have a lion hunt in 5 weeks, will let you know how they are. It is on the Texas Mexico border with horses and dogs on dry ground.

You may want to check out a thread on bowsite about this topic.  Seems the hounds are nearly all being tracked by GPS nowadays which disallows any entry into P&Y of your trophy.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know that about the GPS tracking. I've never entered anything into P&Y, but that's good information to have.

One thing I've found researching this is, cougar hunting is expensive! I've always been a DIY guy, but that seems difficult with this particular animal.

Contact Mark Turner of Turner Guide Service in Idaho Springs, CO.   Hunted lion with Mark in 2004, he is great and hardworking. Mark is a tradional bow hunter himself having taken 9 species in CO, including 2 Bighorn Rams and has guided the state record moose along with many bow killed sheep, mountain goats, and lions.  You won't be disappointed.

BAK,
If anybody is worried about entering their kitty into a book, all one needs to do is turn off their tracking unit.  It is as simple as pressing some buttons.  I would suggest they and leave the collars on, and then turn off the tracking unit only, you still meet P&Y requirements.  Having had Hounds, on more than one occasion, spend several days out in the mountains in sub-zero weather, my Hounds will have their tracking collars on.
