Recently purchased a bear take down, B riser, #3 limbs, 45#. Bought it from Big Jim and he furnished the string (not the bear string).
Love the bow but need to reduce the noise. Any thoughts on the best way to silence it?
I use wool puffs on all my Bear bows and they work great....

Like Sam, wool puffs do a good job. I make my own out of Fisherman's wool yarn which is found at Michael's. :campfire:
SBD 8 strand string with wool puffs, silent. You can pick up the strings from Tim at Braveheart Archery, he's a sponsor here and he has them in stock. Lighting fast shipping, the Fishemans wool is the best I've found for making silencers
You may need to put some adhesive felt in the limb pockets. They're a bit sloppy, helps reduce noise a lot.
All of the above...
And.... Bear TDs are notorious for sometimes needing a high brace height in order to shoot quietly. Going up to 8.5" or even as high as 9" might be required. It will be worth it. Once they are all set they can be very sweet-shooting bows and very accurate bows to boot.
Most of mine need to be at 8.5" or a bit over that to get quiet.
Set the brace height to the quietest you can get it and then add wool puff silencers.
Thanks, everyone.
I have a 8 1/4" brace on all my Bear T/D's and Cat Whiskers for silencers.

I agree......
Ten ring fury string with cat whiskers, brace over 7 3/4".
Took it to the range today and adjusted the brace height. At 8.5" the bow was very quiet. Problem solved. Will add wool puffs as soon as I can get them.
Thanks to all for your insights.
I have heard up people putting silicone string wax in the limb pockets but I would try some wool or cat whiskers first. A bear takedown is too nice to be gooping up with wax imo. Then again there comes a time when function overcomes form
I had 2 friends who bought the newer Bears. I am not sure what string material they use, but I could not get them quiet with catwhiskers. I made new strings with B50 and they quieted right down.
Way to go Grampy. I kind of figured it might be a brace height issue. Glad you found the right height.
