Like Crocodile Dundee said, it tastes like..... well.....
anyway, I am munching down on canned tamales by a popular brand. Yup, I will eat them, this time.
Anybody else find some hunting lunch kinda food to be ...... like .......!
ChuckC
Canned tamales right before the evening sit?
I'm more if a ham sammich kinda guy
Used to eat heated Hormel tamales in a glass jar for lunch as a kid. Loved em! I don't think I would be chowing on cold tamales from a can however. YUKK! I have sat and ate others homemade trail "gorp" that was about as tasteful as beach sand just to be polite.
I recently ate a fiber bar that I said "tasted like the back of a tablet".
I prefer PBJ sandwiches over canned tamales
all the above still better than MRE's! Although some of the younger guys are telling me that there are some decent tasting MRE's these days. After my time in service was done I always took MRE's with me on hunts. Until one day I stopped and though. HUH? why the heck am I still eating "grey beef patty". :)
There are very few foods that don't get vastly improved by the inclusion of bacon; and that includes more bacon. :shaka:
A lot of women, and a few men, like yogurt. As far as I'm concerned, it looks and tastes like glop.
ChuckC,
Growing up in Tennessee, we never ate that stinking stuff. We had the good stuff, such as potted meat, spam, and vienna sausages.
I don't know what "glop" tastes like, but yogurt is pretty good (the flavored types, not the plain) Have never taken it on a hunt however!
A lot of things taste good (that you may not think so otherwise) after you've been in the woods for a few hours. But after all is said and done, I can't ever remember taking anything to the woods that I didn't consider "good tasting" at home. :goldtooth:
I used to get in the mood for some canned tamales. The mood didn't strike all that often, but I do remember you don't eat the paper.

I'll stick with PBJ's ,Jerky, & trail mix myself, of course ya gotta have chocolate bars for desert.... I don't do canned tamales...makes me shiver just thinking about it.....
I grew up on fried Spam smothered in ketsup and also Vienna sausages cut in half (lengthwise) placed between two pieces of well mayonnaised bread, and my Dad's altime favorite...Macaroni and tomatoes. Yeah, you read that right, NO meat was included in his favorite. To this day, I still can't choke down the thought of eating it again.
When I hunted on Kauai, Hawaii a few years ago, I carried a couple cans of spam and a spoon. Cold Spam sucks back here in Michigan, but for some odd reason, cold Spam in the mountains of Hawii was a gourmet meal. HA!!
Sardines in olive oil and saltine crackers MMMMMM
Hides your sent also. Can't go camping with out spam.
My current favorite is Vienna sausages with Louisiana hot sauce. Mmmmmmmmm!!!!
double post. Sorry
Fried spam and eggs! Breakfast of champions!
I fished a many a bass tournament living on vienna sausages. Haven't eaten one since, maybe 15 years.
Smoked-dried goat. pork jerkey, deep fried peacock. anything but canned diarrhea..
I will eat sardines on a hunt. Just can't forget the crackers, I tried the Vienna sausages... Just can't getum down :dunno:
I have eaten as much sardines, Spam, and Vienna sausage as anybody here. The only problem is that it always gave me gas. Not a problem on a dove shoot or in a duck blind, but it was not a good thing on a deer stand. Now, though, I can't eat meat so that problem is solved. All in all my favorite was a chocolate candy bar.

I like sardines in oil also. Some years ago, I was backpacking with my wife and opened a tin of sardines on the first day of a two week backpacking trip. I accidentally dribbled some of the oil on my pants, which gave me a typically sardiney odor for the rest of the trip. My wife was afraid for the rest of the trip that I would attract bears, and she didn't like the fishy smell in the tent at night. One would think that a person could mention these things once and then be done with it. But being a woman, of course, she felt compelled to mention it every time it occurred to her for the rest of the trip, which was many, many times.
Summer sausage and cheese wrapped in a tortilla. When I was on the Appalachian Trail that was my go to lunch. Jerky is the king of backwoods snacking though.
On a two week drop camp to Alaskas for caribou, my hunting partner was responsible for the food...and all he brought was SPAM. He was from Hawaii and I have since found out whcy...Hawaii is the #1 for spam consumption.
It was a long 2 weeks as I spent a lot of time fishing for my dinner.
