the rut is in swing here but it is hot. 70-80 deg. hunt around water? I get plenty of it..
Probably a record high here today. Hopefully it will cool off this weekend. Just have to hunt through it.
im doing same as normal rut times, hunting pinch points or edge cover where a buck will travel to view more open areas... its warmer than normal here as well looks like mid 60's this weekend..
Nothin :banghead:
It has been very wet around here, so I have not been out much for over a week. Things should be happening this week, though. So far, I have not seen the large number of scrapes like I did the last few years.
I switched some vacation days from Thursday & Friday to Monday & Tuesday when it will be a little colder.
With the weather as warm as it is am sure the bucks are running at night. Found 2 open scrapes yesterday so hope the weather cools off after a front predicted for tomorrow comes in-mid day temps in the 50's. Don't know about the deer but will make the walk in alot better for me.
Warm wet weather will push out of here by late morning tomorrow. With cooler temps it should pick up. That being said I am heading up to NY for some Steelhead and Brown trout fishing.
First day I finally took off to hunt.
All I saw was a squirrel in flip flops and sun glasses giving me the finger.
:banghead:
Hunted the heat wave only saw one 4 pointer cruising for does. This was my first traditional hunting season,am disappointed I did not see much and I am more unhappy with myself throwing an arrow over that 4 pointers back.It is a hunt I will never forget.
Might as well golf when it's really warm. Rut or no rut deer simply don't run around in the day with their winter coats on.
You might have a little chance the first hour of light but after that it's just a pleasant sit in the woods
some bucks are being killed this with muzzle loader mostly morning kills. I'm going anyway, can't shoot at em if I'm not in the woods.
VA Elite, you are correct. You won't know if you don't go. Killed this buck day before yesterday (Nov. 4th) here in Wisconsin. 3:35pm, sunny, temp @ 70. He had his nose to the ground looking for the hot doe. According to general wisdom he shouldn't have been moving around - but he was.

Congrats Pete. Looks like a Big River bow you used?
nice Pete!!
Yep, Charlie, it's one of John's and my personal favorite.
Nice buck Pete!
They are chasing now here. They was doing last weekend but its more now.
Awesome Buck Pete..Loos like you are carrying your luck from moose over to this year. Good to see you out.
Yes, Tyler, it's been a good year so far. Took a nice 6x6 Bull in NM also. How've you been? I see you've been filling your freezer too.
My thoughts... If you could only procreate for 2 weeks out of the year... What would you do...?!?!
I know what I'd be doing. Sweatin' like a dog looking for a partner in these high temps that's what!!!
They will be moving, you just have to adjust to the patterns and locations in which these deer are frequenting during these high temps. Don't hunt your age old "rut stand". Get into the cooler valleys and bedding areas near water, shade, and north facing timber hillsides. That's where you'll find them.
One thing I have noticed is the deer are bedding on the north facing slopes a lot like elk do to get away from the heat of the sun. I have been seeing them on their feet feeding at 3:30 in the afternoon. also been seeing the bucks cruising the hollers clear down in the creek beds out of the sun. Just my .02 hope it helps.
I got a doe yesterday. Extremely humid and I had to drag her a long way.
Great rut here in Ohio.
