Title: Calling all you experts
Post by: TIM B on November 01, 2015, 10:39:00 AM
Some of ya remember me prob but ain't been here much....
I've shot a sky longbow and woodies for 25 years so I can shoot a bit- lol but here is my current predicament

I bought a bear Griz just for fun.  55@28 I pull 29 ish
Let the 3 rivers guy talk me into 300's-- too stiff.  I got 340's still a little stiff I think.  I got 400's (gettin expensive) and with field points they fly good - 150 woodsman not as well but w a 100 muzzy 4 blade pretty good.....these are all traditional only arrows from 3 rivers.  They have that white wrap on them.  Any way to defletch them -leave the wrap and refletch w my bigger fletchings? Thanks in advance!! Tim

Heat the wrap with steam or a hair dryer and slowly peel them off.  Replace the wrap and the fletching.

I shoot a 56# @ 28" R/D longbow and draw 29-ish.  I put 125 grain broadheads on the front with 125 grain screw-in adapters and 100 grain brass inserts.  They fly great.  Carbons are stiff and need weight up front.

hope this helps.

Where you should be, assuming a 30" arrow back of point. Add 5# per inch over 28" draw lenghth, add 10# for recurve, would make a 75# wood arrow. Conversion to carboneros:26/x*1.2115=75
x=26/75*1.2115= 0.42 deflection.
I have no idea why they recommended such stiff shafts.
So a 400 is slightly stiff, but I assume you are shooting full length? That makes most likely the difference.
And no, there is no way of refletching without tearing up the white foil wrap.
Just get some fresh ones from onestringer.com and refletch. I still think a little more fletching won't help much.
