Title: Carbon Arrow for New Bow
Post by: dbd870 on October 29, 2015, 09:14:00 PM
I picked up a Martin Jaguar Elite recurve for an inexpensive back up. It is 50# at 28" and it measures right on with my scale. I am drawing 28". I had some Easton ST Epic 400's cut at 29.5" laying around from my compound days. I suspected they were going to be stiff and sure enough even with 200gr points they are showing stiff. They have 4" vanes. I'm thinking a 500 at 30" should get me in the ball park; does that seem reasonable? FWIW they actually grouped up very nicely; since susposedly they have their limb issues resolved and it actually was pleasant to shoot I'm thinking it will serve it's purpose pretty well.

try them  with a 150 gr broadhead with a 125 gr. steel insert, should work just be a fairly heavy arrow..or if inserts are not epoxied in get some 100 gr brass inserts.

I have the same weight bow and draw length as you. I shoot MFX Classics in 500 spine cut to 29 1/2", with 150 grain heads and 75 grain brass inserts. Fly great for me.

Try it before you cut it.  I leave my GT35/55 full length shooting similar set up.  Carbons are stiff.

Using VForce 500's cut at 30.5 it took 250gr up front to get them to fly right. Those carbons really are stiff aren't they! That gives me about 21% FOC - I can live with that!
