Fellow Trad's-
Going to leave the compound at home this year and take the longbow out!
My question is this:
Do I need to have a traditional broad head or can I simply use my 3 blade muzzy. I understand that the weight needs to be the same as my field point weight, but does it really need to be a 2 blade traditional type of broad head?
Thank you for any/all advice.
3 blade Muzzys will give you no trouble at all.
No, it does not need to be a 2 blade, people use 3 and 4 blade heads, use what works for you, just don't use those darn expandables. Just my opinion.
Youll get petter penetration with a two blade cut on contact head though.
Thank you guys... I didn't think it would matter, so long as weight was the same. Appreciate the responses!
I've gone back to the 125g Muzzy 3 blade this year. I'm shooting around 50# @ 30" and shot through a spike and into the dirt another 6" with one a few weeks ago. Easy walking 40yrd blood trail. On Sept 15th I made a bad shot on a doe and hit her right square in her "elbow" and had ZERO penetration.... Every single deer or pig I've ever lost has been because of poor shot location and not because of my choice of broadhead.
Good encouragement Blaino... That's my nickname believe it or not, real name being Blaine.
Looking forward to hunting this weekend with the stick and hopefully get an opportunity to shoot one!
What's your setup? Type of longbow, poundage, draw length and total arrow weight.
Just put it in the right spot and you will be fine.
Terry
yup hit the pump station and you'll be fine.
You will be fine
They are great heads
Where in IL are you ?
have you bare shaft tuned or paper tuned and made sure they fly well? failing to do so was my biggest early mistake...good luck and welcome brother
Those Muzzy's will work fine, providing they fly well. Really spin them and make sure you don't have any wobble. If the point weight/arrow spine set up is all in order and the Muzzy's are balanced correctly with no spin, they'll kill like crazy!
