Anybody seeing any chasing or pre-rut activity yet.I have found a couple scrapes opened up the past couple days.Maybe things will heat up after this rain.
Yes some scrapes and a little chasing, but not a lot yet...
yup had a three point chase does sunday night
Not yet my buddy did see 5 bucks in couple hours yesterday . It's getting close ..............
Definitely! Activity is picking up and scrapes are starting to show up. I went from having one buck on trail cam in 1 week to 8 the following week. But to answer your question, the Pre rut activity has started.
No chasing yet but been seeing the scrapes, waiting to hear the quick pace of a trotting buck and grunting with every step of a searching buck.
Was out early this morning, real warm out.Tried a little rattling and calling but no response or sightings. Will try again this evening.
I've got Friday off and the following week except Monday. I'm hoping things kick in but the warm weather won't help.
According to my notes over the past few years my spots are much better during the searching stage of the rut as opposed to the chasing stage so next week should be hot for me.
I think after the this last full moon things are going to be crazy this weekend. Its been painfully slow for me this year until Tuesday when I saw three bucks including a huge bodied sway back that was old as I've ever seen.Watched him for 5 full minutes as he was on alert at 35yds broadside. Too far for me.You think I need a crossbow ? HA !!
Went out this evening no movement or sightings what so ever.I did see a small flock of turkeys though.thats a good sign for my woods.Yesterday mid morning had 8 longbeards in the field behind the house.Stayed out there for acouple hours in the rain. Then wandered off in the apple orchard.Good to see them again.
Last week I saw one instance of a small buck chasing a doe. Today I had a 4pt under my stand at 10 yds, decided to shoot due to limited time to hunt this yr and drew back and my bow tip hit the stand for the smallest ding sound, well he jumped and stood directly under me, then walked off to my non-shooting side. Hope I get another chance.
Just got back from hunting with a buddy of mine. We both saw smaller bucks chasing does and doing a little grunting. The rut isn't in full swing just yet, but it certainly will be here very soon.
Saw a Spike, chasing a Doe, about 10:30 this morning.....
It's getn here!!!!! :bigsmyl:
Tuesday I had 4 young bucks under me grunting. One I almost decided to shoot, he was 115"-120" but was very young. Probably 2.5. I had 2 does come by and a lost doe fawn running around trying to hang out with every deer that came by. The funny thing was, a doe in heat walked right under me as well and not one of the bucks in the area was following her. It's getting close though tomorrow should be good.
I'm betting on the second week of November to be the best.
Hunted in the evening yesterday had 2 does go by my groundbind and nothing followed,Maybe this week it will happen.
Hunted Friday and Sunday all day and activity was sparse. Thursday & Friday is going to be real warm with 50 degrees at 7:00am. I'm thinking of working those two days and taking Monday & Tuesday off next week when it will be a little colder.
I have seen 3 bucks Harassing the crap out of does, One cost me a shot on 9 does, Then after they were gone, I grunted him in and he winded me.
According to my journal which I kept since 1988 my best time for deer activity and sightings has been right around Veteran's day plus or minus a day or 2. That's not far away......get ready!!!
