Made up some arrows today for my Mountain Lion hunt in January.

That one with the black point might get to see a deer tonight!
Sour wood shoot shafts, wild turkey feathers with deer sinew, points by Butch Stone and Lane Gregson sealed with bear grease.
Nothing like getting ready for a hunt!
Very nice!
Saweeet!
Yeah Mke those are awesome man!
wowsa. love em!
You sir might be nuts, but that's my kind of nuts!
Awesome!
That is awesome talent.
I don't think the mountain lion will like them very much. ;)
I have to ask - what's with all the fur in front of the feathers? Is that to act as a flu flu since you are shooting up into a tree at the cat?
and more... why grey ? Why not a bright color ?
Good luck on that hunt. I have always wanted to hunt ol Felis, but likely never will.

Those look great Mike! Definitely on my short list to do. Do you weigh the stone tips to make sure they are within a certain weight? If so, what does a "typical" stone point weigh? Good luck on the hunt!
Bill-
Great looking arrows.......
very nice
I don't weigh the points but do weigh the shaft and point and want them 550-600 grains. That is turkey down on the front of the feathers not fur and it is fluffed up bigger than it really is. Its for looks and don't slow it down, I do pull tiny pieces off when in a tree stand to check the wind, which comes in handy.
Nice work. Are you going to use dogs or are you calling?
Sourwood is my favorite shafting and I don't think you can find tougher shafting. The natural taper give plenty of weight forward so lighter stone points lend themselves perfect for sourwood shafts.
Good luck on your lion hunt Mike. Aim small, miss small!
Good looking arrows Mike!
The black is Obsidian, what type of stone are the other points?
Going on a horse back hunt with dogs on the Texas Mexico border.
Tree Killer, they are all chert
Good luck on your hunt Mike. And those arrows are very cool.Flying art.
Nice looking arrows! I made some not long ago that looked a lot like these, but mine did not stand up under testing. I used pitch/charcoal adhesive and sinew, but when shot into a bag target, the heads did not remain solidly in line? What is the secret? Yours look great, but they also have that sinister, deadly look to them.
Mike beautiful arrows, I love them sir! I'm a big fan of your work. A couple arrow questions if you don't mind. Did you use any adhesive at the tips with the stone? What did you use for the pigment/ red color? Thanks for sharing your work and best of luck on your hunt.
They look great and deadly. Lets see the bow that your using them with. Go get that kitty.
When I shoot stone points, I shoot at a block of styrofoam. One of the $18 targets from Wally world. DO NOT pull the arrows, push them all the way through to remove and the heads stay pretty secure.
That is 100% pure coolness right there!
Good luck on your hunt. I can't wait to hear the stories and see the pics.

Sockrsblur, The only thing that I use on my arrows that is not primitive is on the adhesive and for that I use hot melt glue and a torch. It is easy to get the heads where I want them and if I have to move them its easy to just hear again and adjust to get them to spin right. The red is color pigments in alcohol that I sell on my website. I shoot all of mine in a foam target and never have trouble with them not being rouged enough to take it, in or out. I do make sure that the heads are seated VERY well on the shaft and wrap with back sinew to hold in place.
Thank you Mike. I have struggled with the pine pitch at times holding like I want to but I'm only a beginner. And again thanks for sharing your work, best of lunk on the hunt... We will be wenching :)
When I make pitch glue I use hard, brittle pitch, melt it and add bees wax(to make the pitch pliable)and add finely ground charcoal(not bricketts)for body. If you use sticky pitch the glue will come out sticky. If the stone point(or trade points) become loose just heat the point a bit, reset the point and let the pitch cool. I then spin the arrow, point down on my finger tip to be sure there is no wobble.
I shoot every arrow into a foam target before I ever use it to be sure it flies true.
I also make pitch varnish(hard pitch dissolved in alcohol) that I use to seal sinew wraps.
Very nice, I love seeing shoot and cane arrows.
