saw no deer this morning and no deer this evening... my 10 yr old son tagged along all day. hunt in the morning then check trail cams and scout more then build a blind or two and hunt the evening on some promising sign. as the time ticked away and it got to about 6 pm my son said "dad what is the deal? I thought we would see something" that's when I pointed at the big bright ball of cheese in the sky and said " must be the moon".... 6 of us hunted this evening and none of saw a deer... the old bright light always seems to hem em up...
I saw 4 this morning and 4 this afternoon...and my buddy killed one
Pouring rain here all day! I stayed at home.

Same here. Sucks don't it! Been depressed all day! :(
I stepped outside long enough to shoot a few arrows and ran back in. But we did need the rain.
Saw several this morning and shot a doe. Saw doe and fawn as well as a small buck this evening.
my brother killed one this morning at 9 am. ... but this afternoon was pretty dead for all of us.. I really don't know if the bright moon has anything to do with it, but I do know that for some reason every time we get bright moon, and doesn't have to be all the way full, I never see deer in the evening.. or, maybe I just suck!
I got to hunt with my son this afternoon. I saw 0-he saw 17-no shot taken-Hap
8 point crossed the field this morning, but never got closer than 70 yards or so. Neighbors were racing 4 wheelers next field over in the afternoon, so knocked off early. 2 does sauntered into the field while I was walking the dogs.
My evenings have been slow and mornings have been wild. Complete 180 from how this property has hunted for the past 5 years!
Friday morning I saw 4 and saw zero In the pm. none of these sits are in the same stand though... do you guys not see any affect of a bright moon and movement?
Overcast last night; nothing moving this a.m. 'cept 2 coyotes.
I'm heading out now for a 10:00 - 2:000 hunt. Mid day can be awesome when the moon is right.
good luck A.S. and Paradocs!
've seen 3 this am....buck 2 doe in a new spot....crossing 30 to 35 yards away....
I'm on the ground so I'm moving...
I'm in MO at the moment..m
Just had a spike cross me
2 doe just came back. ...i did move but they hugged left edge in wirey stuff....in range but no shot
There's a reason the bright full moon in October is called the Harvest Moon and the following new moon is called the Hunter Moon. In general, the bright moon and dry weather enable deer to feed more effectively at night and move less during the day.
The Only way they're gonna move in East Texas this weekend- is with a boat !! :biglaugh:
Deer feed no matter what phase the moon is in. According to the Solinar(sp) table the major feeding times are an hour or so before and after when the the moon is at 12:00(straight up) and 6:00(straight below) and the secondary times are an hour or so before and after when the moon is at the horizon, both east and west.
"Deer feed no matter what phase the moon is in."
Zackly Pat! Don't give up huntin due to the moon!
no giving up here. it could have been just too hot and dry... could have been all night time activities...
Sometimes a guy is just not in the right place at the right time. I passed a buck this morning I may wish I could have a redo on sometime toward gun season..... nah :)
First one this year that was close to what I like tho....
I had a 4pt, 2pt and a 1-1/2pt under me from right after daylight till about 9am this morning.
so do any of you all find the afternoon sits on a bright moon to be slow? I have always had slow hunts on those near to full moons In the pm. and yes, I certainly have chosen the wrong stand as well. but there have been many times when multiple hunters see nothing the same afternoon, spread out over 7k acres
I have seen a sudden change in deer movement this past few days. But, they are still around, and I still see them.

Sometimes.... sorry that's all I got!
Charlie and I both had opportunities on big bucks this afternoon with heavy mass but that didn't work out for either of us but what a rush I had I was on the ground....wow
Both Charlie and I only saw one deer this afternoon but both would have had dates with a taxidermist
Terry sounds like your in Venison Heaven.
yep I had one shuck when I thought he was going to keep jiving...
And Charlie had one turn inside out
moon phases are primarily just a guide to most activity ......there are a lot of other external factors that play into hunting for sure as you see by everyone else's experiences on the same day...if I have it right . it seems on full moon cycles the deer are more active at mid day....and on a new moon...during first and last light...,
so many other things can play into what you see...that it is only another tool that may help you from time to time...JMHO
some people swear by them...heck I just go hunt ..never pay much attention to anything other than the wind...and rain (rain for blood trailing)
I have been successful on hot days.cold days, windy days calm days , and at different phases of the moon..also been unsuccessful on the same LOL
Went out this morn. Didn't see anything. Supposed to rain the next couple days, but am gonna try any how.I can't do any worse than what I've been.
Yesterday I saw a big doe at 9:40 then at 11:20 three does, and a 5 or 6 pointer came by not close enough and too many eyes.
Today I bumped 2 walking in at 10:50 and two fat does come within 8 yds. Of my stand. Then at about 11:15 I spotted a buck in a ravine. Still up on his feet.
I thought it was unusual to see deer activity that late in the morning. I blamed the moon. I read somewhere that during a full moon deer will move at midday.
Yes sir.....we saw mostt of our deer today moving 11 to 1230 today because we stayed late due to the moon......as well as a few early.
