Title: For guys who hunt with a Hoyt buffalo
Post by: DesertDude on October 22, 2015, 09:13:00 PM
I just got one a week ago, spent the past week tuning it. Ended up with these results.
62". 47# @28  400 spine cut 29.25 bop. 100 gr insert with 125gr point. 9 strand d97 with wool puffs, braced at 8.25
Bare shaft great.  Velcro in string groves and forward limb pad on riser. Tried a 12 strand and 15 strand d97.  This bow shoots great.

Question for buffalo owners. I have a great northern quick mount quiver, is this a good/rugged quiver?  Better options?

Thanks   Mark

honestly, i think a 2 piece looks a lot better on the hoyts, but don't look near as "traditional".  If I had a hoyt buffalo, I  would probably be using a hoyt 2 piece quiver.

would the QD work with the ILF set up?(isn't the buffalo an ILF riser?)

QD works perfect limb mounting brackets are made for the buffalo.  There is a mounting hole just forward of the limb bolt.

The Great Northern limb bolt quiver is the BEST I have ever owned. Give it a chance, I don't think you will be disappointed.

To quiet the bow & quiver down even further get some thick rubber tubing and use it as a stop between the quiver and the bow mounting bracket.(shock absorber) Make contact with the arrow spreader and the rubber in the quiver hood. Cut to length where you like your quiver positioned and you'll never have to mess with it again. I was surprised what 2 little pieces of rubber did. And Thank You for your service to our country!

That GN Quick Mount is about the best bow quiver made for a takedown bow! There are a few prettier quivers out there, but none that function better!

Desert, no better quiver option for the buffalo in my opinion than what you have. The QD was built for the Buffalo!!!

All the pictures with the Buffalo in the link below are with a GN quiver. I started off with a strap on because that's what I had but ended up with Buffalo Quick Mount.

The Buffalo won't accept standard ILF limbs, only the proprietary limbs by Hoyt. There may be some conversion systems available that I'm not aware of. The Hoyt Dorado can be modified to accept ILF limbs.
Just looking at pictures, it would seem that the Hoyt limbs are longer from the button to the limb bolt notch.

Yes the Buffalo utilizes their Formula limbs which are little longer at the "contact points". It also has a threaded bushing which the quiver mounts attach to.

i shoot the buffalo, and now my kid just bought one so he does to. i tried the hoyt quiver and just do not like it on the bow. i went with a thunderhorn boa strap on quiver. if you adjust the limb bolts be sure to tighten the limb bolt stops in the back of the bow.
I also use a 10ring string with yarn wrapped loops instead of felt or velcro in the string groves, and a set of rubber puff silencers  it shoots fast, hard and almost as quiet as my longbows. it launches a gold tip velocity 300 cut at 31.5 with a 300gr point, 648gr total at about 182fps. and its so easy to travel with.
if you do end up selling it you shouldn't have a problem finding a buyer.
