Title: Travel Case for 1 piece recurve
Post by: DaveT1963 on October 20, 2015, 04:03:00 PM
Looking for a quality and structurally sound case to haul my 1 piece static limb recurve around in.  Not looking for those cheap plastic cases but something more substantial that can stand up to the abuse received at airports.  Any thoughts?

I have a heavy plastic case like you carry fishing rods in. It is pretty solid, but I don't know about being airline proof.

I've been looking at the hard plastic cases for skis.  I've seen a few on CL in my area.

I have flown many times using the 6" pvc padded case trimmed in leather.  I think I bought mine from Kustim King.

Home made pvc tube case. painted with a carry handle attached. The bows in a bowsock and never had a problem. Other than the cost of putting a 74inch pvc tube on a plane.

The problem here is this is a static tip recurve and I would need an 8" PVC tube.  Surely someone has traveled with a one piece recurve in something other than PVC tubes?

Extra baggage fees will cost enough to pay for a new take-down version after 2-3 trips!

Yep those fees went up again so now I am takeing a Hoyt buffalo, 3 peices and small. next year I hope to have a widow psa greybark for the trip to Wisconsin. I thought about shipping my longbow out there but then I'd be without it for a week plus who knows how much longer. I can't say enough good things for take down bows now. When I took my longbow the fee was 150 dollars due to the length. Looked for this trip and it was $200. That's one way. Anything over 62 linear inches.costs a fortune now.

I use an SKB rifle case but my recurve is short, 54" Wild Horse Creek. It fits like it was made for it. The case has TSA locks, which is handy for them but keeps the baggage handlers out of it(I hope).

I'm going to put it to use tomorrow on my trip to North Carolina. I'm just hoping there is a deer or two left in the state as Bill and Dick Langer got there a day ahead of me:)

I think a two or three piece bow is my near future.
