I'm looking at the Asbell anoraks. I like the Timber ghost and gray. One is extra heavy and the other is blanket weight. Is the blanket weight any warmer and does it cut the wind better than the extra heavy weight.
Thanks for any info.
I haven't owned Teresa's but I have owned a Laclair Longhunter. I'm guessing one of their weights is comparable to Ron's heavy weight and if so, it's incredibly warm. Ron's came almost to my knees and I had to wear it with a belt/sash, which I liked an helped keep the legs as well as the torso warm.
Call and ask them.....that way you get it from the horse' mouth.
I have both the anorak in blanket weight and evening stand brown in heavy weight and there is a noticible difference in the thickness and warmth. As for cutting the wind, both seem to have the same tightness of weave and therefore cut the wind about the same....There is just more of the blanket weight though so it's going to be better in a cold wind.
I can't believe how inexpensive they are. I have had some on Christmas list for a few years now. It is time to pull the trigger.
I can't speak to the blanket weight, but I have the Timber Ghost pullover in extra heavy weight. I was out this last weekend with temperatures in the 30's and only a long sleeve cotton T-shirt underneath, and I felt comfortable. I love that Pullover!
Jollymon-
I like to wear a wind breaker of some sort underneath my wool. I have a wind break sweater when it's real cold and I also have the Asbel windbreaker which works good too! Just my thoughts!
Kenny
It's almost always easier to deal with too much rather than not enuf.
Quality wool...! Call her with questions..
Thanks for the feedback. I have been using an extra heavy weight pullover with several layers underneath. I still get cold when sitting. I don't know how you guys stay warm at 30 degrees with just a couple layers.

It depends what the layers are, and what else you are wearing. Start off with getting rid of your cotton. Absolutely no value in cold weather.
Try quality, non cotton long johns, wool pants, sweater, and your pullover. Smart wool socks and boots with room. Fingerless wool gloves. Watch cap. Something on your neck.
That should keep you warm down to the low teens. Honestly, for 30 degrees and above I would break my own rule and wear moleskin pants
Does anyone have both King of the Mountain and some of Fred's wool. How does the blanket weight compare to the KOM in weight and warmth?
Thanks
I have owned KOM in the past. GFA Blanket weight is lighter in weight, yet as warm ( or more). Also note that KOM is prohibitively expensive.
Thanks Roger. I have some KOM (I bought used)and am just trying to get a sense of the different weights Fred has. I said it above I can't believe how inexpensive these garments are.
