Title: my week here in va
Post by: VA Elite on October 17, 2015, 11:44:00 PM
last Saturday evening I actually passed on a very young 4 pt at 7 yards. it was all I could do not to shoot him but we have rules and bucks have to be at least 15" wide so I let him walk right under my tree.. Tuesday my 10 yr old son went with me for an evening hunt and we saw no deer, but he was about to go crazy wanting shoot a squirrel and his first bow kill, didn't happen though...Thursday I went in the evening and saw nothing. this morning I hAd 3 does come in but they were at about 45 yds, so no go on them. this afternoon I got busted by a nose and it was over. man this is some very tough hunting especially because I don't get as high in the tree as I did with the wheels and I have to have them at least 15 yds or closer so it makes even harder... and you what? I am completely sick and obsessed with this new me!! I may not get a deer this year with a bow, it will be my first since 1993, but man has this been so rewarding already!

Keep that attitude and it will happen, if it was easy there would be even more stick bow hunters. When you get one you will never turn back.

Don't say you won't get a deer. It's not nice to lie!    :knothead:    :goldtooth:

Looking forward to a good report.

Great luck!

Many here report, me included, that it often takes a couple years with stick bows to connect, or more properly put, (me thinks) it takes a couple encounters for us to get all the ducks lined up and get the green light...

I almost envy you.  MOving to a new state, figured there'd be untold #s of hunters here in NE TN, but that is not the case!

Haven't met ONE hunter or fisher person yet and thereby, nobody to share with.  Still trying to figure out WHERE the public land is to even take the bow for a 'hobble'.

(I won't say "walk" cause with knee replacement happening mid Dec, it's more honest to say "hobble" currently)

I know moving about in my younger days, it took time to learn the local ropes, and now being retired, you just DON'T meet people like when working and being about more folks more often!

I just had this fantasy that TN would be "different" somehow and more hunters, especially archery or trad archery hunters, then I'm meeting... plenty Central state and farther West, but that is boucou hours driving!

Excellent attitude and as others have said it will happen when you least expect it so keep on your toes... they KNOW when you relax your mind and are "ill prepared!"

     :goldtooth:

It's trial and error man. This will make you a better hunter by far.

I do believe that 100%.
