Terry Receveur and I met up at in Delaware Co for the TBONY Catskill hunt. We got to my mom and dads place said our hellos then hit the woods. It was typical fall Catskill Mountain weather, rain, sun, clouds, wind...but it was beautiful!!

Nothing moving That night except a doe that we spooked walking to our stands. We hit another spot on the mountain Saturday morning. I dropped Terry off near the edge of a green field. I went in several hundred yards up the road. I set up over looking a logging road and clear cut going up hill. 735 I had Two does come in with two fawns. The bigger doe gave me a BEAUTIFUL quartering away shot at 10 yards......only prob was that she was that I was set up with for a shot on the opposite side. She they came in with the wind at thier backs!!! By the time I get in position, the doe had walked out of range. At 815 a loan doe came in and walked through the clear cut. I drew and released. My heart sdnk as I could see the path of the arrow was headed towards the pounch....but she steped forward and I hit her in the hams!!! I NEVER PICKED A SOOT!! :knothead:
As the doe started to run, I saw blood spraying from where I hit her. The razor sharp Magnus sliced through the artery.
The blood trail was not hard to follow.

She only went about 50-60 yards. The bad hit bothers me a bit. I rushed the shot, which is something that I usually don't do. That scary sharp Magnus saved me!!

that ol femoral artery gets me every time!! and quickly ! nice job and bad shots happen to us all so don't beat yourself up.
I actually killed my very first deer with that hit back in 1982!!
So Terry and I hit the woods again after some bacon eggs and home fries. The wind picked up, I was set up in an old over grown orchard. About 615 I had about a 110-120 in 8 pt come in to about 60 yards. Man he was pretty!! We left the woods, said our good byes and were on our way. I was disappointed that I couldn't put Terry on some deer.
Sounds like a good trip. Congrats
Congrats!
Congrats again brother, and that I believe is the first game taken on a TBONY group hunt. Wish I could have been there.
Nice doe. Congrats!!
Thanks all!! The mountains are beautiful this time of year

Nice job buddy, things don't always go as planned....congrats!

God bless,Mudd
It sure is a nice time of year to be in the woods. Congrats.
That is beautiful country Sir. congrats!!RC
Thanks all. Yea, I guess you're all right in that I'd rather be lucky than good sometimes!!
That's ok. You got her... The thrill of the moment takes ove a lot of the time. And we forget that one important detail.
Good job sir!
Sean, did the same last yr, got the deer and pleased w everything but the shot...
Thanks Sean for a great hunt! You were a fantastic host and a great cook. I loved hearing stories from your dad and your mom is a gem.
I had a fantastic hunt. I didn't see much for game, but I saw some beautiful country and shared camp with a great friend. I'd call that a successful hunt. Besides, any hunt where you go 50% is pretty awesome.
Without a doubt, if you had a "for sure" spot, you would've put me in it. That says a lot my friend. It just wasn't my time to kill a deer, most aren't for us traditional guys. If we only hunted when we knew we'd kill something we'd be staying home a lot.
Thanks again for sharing some of your family stomping grounds and for being such a gracious host.
Thanks for the kind word Terry. You have no idea how much I wanted to get you on deer. It was a pleasure having you there. thanks for the encouragement. I was beating myself up about the shot, that I wasn't enjoying the moment.

Congratulations Sean. Happy for the outcome.
Congrats Sean! That area is Beautiful, wish I could have bee there.
First deer I ever killed with a bow was a femoral hit.
Congratulations
Wow, that's great looking country! Congrats on the doe; sounds like you both had a good weekend!
Bernie
Special hunt buddy. Thanks
I believe this is the first post I've read of a successful deer hunt in the Catskills.
Those mountains can call to a man. How many times I've traveled the winding route 17 saying to myself, "one day, Bob, ya just gotta stop and get yourself lost up in one of those draws with your bow in hand."
Great story. Happy for your success.
Nice one Brother, I've hit them there (not meaning to) before and they don't go far. Beautiful country.
Thanks all!! Bobaru, I've done pretty well there over the last 35 years. I've gotten a lot of encouragement regarding my poor shot. I'm over it now and am enjoying reminiscing the hunt with a good friend.
