Title: how to stay dry when going to stand
Post by: Arrowcraft on October 17, 2015, 03:07:00 PM
does any one have a good way of packing in warm coat with out all the bulk , have climber, small back pack, or sometimes fanny pack for essentials?

Yep, coat lashed to pack/stand... I have gone as far as hiking in with just a pair of shorts and T- shirt....Also, leave early enough you can take your time and not in a rush...

I dress lite for the walk in and either dress at the base of the tree or once I have climbed up.
I attach it all to my packs which is attached to my stand

I just posted about Kuiu gear. My problem has always been trying to carry a complete tree stand setup, hike up mountains, hang and stand and sit in it all day without freezing.
The high end high tech stuff from Kuiu and Sitka show promise in making this kind of hunting more pleasant. If you get the right combination of pcs. I have yet to use it in bitter cold. But it is light and keeps the sweating to a minimum.
I've been using the merino wool socks too. Nice!
I use a Mystery Ranch Crew Cab backpack. My lone wolf stand goes in the pack. The pack is comfortable and can expand to haul almost anything you can think of . Having the stand against your back with gear tied to it limits what you can carry comfortably. An all day sit deep in the woods takes a lot of gear, clothing, food and water.

Wait until it's light enough to see, then stillhunt in to your stand.

Maybe, you won't even need the stand.....

Bungee it all to the stand, then put stand on your back. Walk slow to avoid overheating.

All my gear weight/bulk can add up quick but it is what it is...

I've almost given up on trying to stay dry while walking in. Usually just wear a T shirt and change when I get to my stand. Take off the wet T, bag it up and put on my good under shirt.

The pack is full of cold weather clothes.

I can't stay dry going in..I could wear no shirt and just sweat on my stand and backpack. So I just change wen I get there.
