what's the favorite,, the warmest and best deal.
also you guys think for stand hunting in say 20 30 degree weather with the occasional below zero wind chills,,,,, mid weight is best under Columbia wool pants so it doesn't get too warm or just go with a heavyweight wool base layer.
in the past for zero to 30 degrees I would wear a durafold (polartec) mid weight base layer, cotton gym pants and the heavy wool pants.
Best piece of cold weather base layer I own is 400 weight top by Minus 33. Toasty!
I go with heavy smartwool next to the skin then a packable primaloft layer, like kuiu spindrift then whatever other wool I need after that based on coldness. Smartwool baselayers have done well for me for a long time.
Minus 33!!!
Love my minus 33
Another vote for Minus 33.
Unless your Columbia wool pants have a wind stopping liner of some kind they are not stopping any wind. I know this from experience.
I love my Minus 33!

I'm a big fan of the terramar brand, and it is typically much cheaper than some of the bigger names.
Well... #1, My legs never seem to get cold. I wear just a pair of bluejeans all winter long, working in the train yard, so most times I just wear a pair of Camo jeans or maybe a pair of wool pants. As for a "base layer"... I usually wear 1 or 2 100% wool sweaters. About $3 at the GoodWill store!!!
I like woolpower 400
I like merino wool. I don't think brand name is important as long as the weight is right and workmanship is good.
I like my Woolpower too, although mine is from the old Ulfrotte' days. It is the warmest I have ever worn for sitting still. I like Smartwool and Kuiu if I will be more active.

are you guys using heavy weight or mid weight for stand hunting?
If it gets below 20F I use silk against my skin and the heavy Ulfrotte' under my wool. If it is warmer I use the Kuiu or SmartWool.

Smartwool or Ibex Merino wool for me. I have it in different weights depending on the temps.
