Several years ago, I read a book, Tracking Dogs for Wounded Deer by John Jeanneney. Since then, I have wanted a wire haired dachshund from John's breeding program. After keeping corespondence with John and Jolanta for a few years, Tonya and I decided to get on the list for a puppy. Well, the time has finally came and we fly to NY this weekend to get the puppy. He is from the X litter and his name is Ximo. He completed a 125 meter track with several checks earlier this week and it was great to see him find the deer leg working the line. The video can be seen on their facebook page Born to Track.

Congratulations hes good lookin pup. We had dachshund growing up and Dad would drag a deer tail around the yard and hide it as a game for them. I love watching them trail right where he hid it. I just wish I thought about actual useing them to trail down or wounded deer. Im glad you got one. Keep us posted on how he does.
Jealous. I'm trying to get the wife and daughter to agree to one but Dad already has a Chessie.
I got to see one in action earlier in the year. After an inch of rain on a gut shot deer.....took less than an hour. Amazing animals. Enjoy.
Congratulations! They are great dogs. Our dog Moe has saved the day on a tough track more than once.
You have a deer tracking machine. Congrats!
Great looking pup. Not only are they tracking machines, they are members of the family. Dogs are good people!
John's book is very informative. It has a great section on different shot placement and signs to look for. I highly recommend it. He has a new edition.
Very nice looking puppy. I bought one two years ago. She is a great addition to the family. Awesome trackers and great family pet. Enjoy

Great looking pup! Congrats!
I have a 10 week old wirehaired pointing Griffon that is proving to have quite the nose as well.

The Night Stalker - Boy, he looks like a pistol... :) Congrats on your good looking pup...
Congrats Tim!! Good looking pup!
Beware - he will take over your entire household :)
What a cutie!
I've never owned one, but I have read a lot of stuff about them (and other trailing dogs). It seems you have a great addition to the family as well as good working partner.
Congrats Tim, you going to rent him out if I ever need his services finding a deer over at Crumpler, N.C., lol?
Awesome! My friend's wirehaired Daschund tracked my doe last Sunday!
Hope he finds many a critters for you!

Nice looking pup.......enjoy!!
Im about to wear that pups legs out lol.
All kidding aside, Jim Dussias and Bill and Dick Langer are coming to town in a couple of weeks to hunt with me and Ethan. I hear they are bringing a good number of pointy projectiles, and have bad intentions. Might get the little feller on TV.
I really want a wire haired dachshund aka teckel for hunting and trailing. They are all dog in a little package! Unfortunately my wife doesn't like the rough coats on many sporting breeds. She wants a golden retriever instead! Sigh. I told her it has to come from working lines if that's the deal.
Good lookin pup!!!!!!
A tracking dog is in my near future! I lost the best buck of my life last year. A really good 10 point. Pushing 150". I firmly believe a good dog would have found him. The problem is I Still can't decide between wire haired, blue lacy, or drahthaar :dunno:
Hopefully all of the Ashe county boys will give you plenty of training opportunities. You know Im going to start breaking in my new centaur. Good luck getting him away from Tonya.
Jeff
Richard, he will be available to track for the high country so keep in touch.
Dalton, it is time. Jeff and I hunted for the first time tonight. So you and Ethan can shoot a few more.
Tilly was out of John & Jolanta's line. Then I breed her back to their stud dog Billy. Got 6 pups and sold two at a reduced price to Trad Gang bow hunters keeping one for myself...Cash. Great dogs for family and terrific noses.

Man that is one cute looking dog!
Dont' trust them! They know how to make you take them places! (http://i1347.photobucket.com/albums/p714/tas0323/IMG_0170_zps1c1f643e.jpg)
Great looking pup. Last week was my first experience (outside of Africa) with a tracking dog- my 8 month old Drahthaar tracked a doe a buddy shot.
For those of you considering getting a dog for tracking, I say DO IT! I was blown away at how the new pup tracked that doe. He dragged me 150 yards through the thickest cover we have in SE Michigan right to the dead doe- it took him maybe 2 minutes. It was a good hit and we would have found her without the dog, but we would have spent 30 minutes doing it. He'll really come in handy on upcoming harder tracks....
Beautiful pup. Congrats on adding a great companion to the family!
Congrats Timmy.....what a great looking pup. The whole leg to body ratio just cracks me up.
Not sure if this video will play. They are Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde going from pet to deer tracker. She'll tear your ankles up! (http://vid1347.photobucket.com/albums/p714/tas0323/IMG_4011_zps59f61c5d.mp4)

You know, dogs are great, all of them. They come in 101 sizes and shapes and colors.
They all have the desire to bond with someone and to be best bud's with someone.
They all have their built in abilities ( and disabilities) and they are all tigers at one time or another.
That look in their eyes when they are allowed to do what they were bred to do is awesome. and then. . . . a chew toy and nap time.
