Title: Arm slap
Post by: stonewall on October 07, 2015, 05:58:00 PM
Have any of yall ever had a bow that slaps your arm no matter what you do. I have several bows and never had this problem. But I have this one bow that no matter what I do I get slapped 7 out of 10 times. But it doesn't seem to hurt my accuracy with it. It shoots good ,just annoying when hunting. Tried Higher brace, Bent wrist, straight wrist, elbow out and bent ,straight arm rotated out. Limbs are straight , sting is lined perfect and tiller is perfect.  Jim Beam {priceless]

Might try a string made from a different material.  I have a bow that with D97 will smack me every unless I raise the brace way high.  With ultracam or other materials no trouble, hard to believe but true.

I've got Sbd strings on all my bows, I think they are bcy 10, They don't have alot of stretch.

My longbow does.  Never had an issue with my recurves, but this one has a much shorter brace height.  Doesn't hit me hard, but it does affect my accuracy if I wear long sleeves because it hangs pretty bad.  I built me an arm guard last week and it shoots just fine now, no matter what shirt I wear.

Have you tried different foot positions to open up your stance.

I have to grip my longbow different than my recurve which stopped the arm slap.

Most self bows will. It's because of the brace height.

Hey I figured it out, On this bow I changed my  bow  hand possition more to the outside of the grip. No more slap. I was getting into it to deep and centered, If that makes any since.

Glad you got it figured out! The only time I wear an armguard is when I hunt and have long sleeves on because I don't want to take the chance of the string catching my sleeve. I also have to wear one with some selfbows, but not all of them.
