Title: Finger Saver vs Glove performance??
Post by: Longtoke on October 06, 2015, 08:34:00 AM
What do you all think?

I have been using them for about a year now and really enjoy not having the mess around with the glove. I couldn't tell it was impacting my shooting much when I first transitioned, but after improving my skills a little I wonder if I am loosing an advantage.

So is it just a personal preference or do gloves offer a cleaner release? What do you like to use?

Not sure about gloves because I don't shoot one, but I'll bet my bottom dollar that a much cleaner release can be attained using a good quality tab (and I would suspect a good quality glove also).

Like everything else in this endeavor, you have to go with what works for you. What works for one guy will not work for the next guy!

My opinion doesn't count for anything but me... but, I believe a tab puts less "stuff" in line with the string and can give you a better release than a glove, in general.

As Bisch stated above, a better quality and better fit device ( either tab or glove) will shine above just any ol tab or glove as well.

Anything will work, but the better fitted, the better designed, the slicker, the sleeker, will noticeably outshine the others in their category.

People claim a skinny string will increase arrow velocity by 2-5 fps.  In other words, a slight decrease in string weight results in a measurable increase in arrow velocity.  I would guess that a finger saver weighs much more than the difference in weight between a skinny string and a regular string.  So if changing from a regular string to a skinny string increases arrow velocity by 2-5 fps, how much would adding the weight of a finger saver to the string decrease arrow velocity?  I don't know, but I suspect it would be noticeable.  If somebody does any actual tests, I would be happy to accept their results over my speculations.

I had not thought about it from that angle Dave, but I'll bet you are spot on.

I would also think that the finger savers would greatly increase rolling of the string at release too.

I do twist the string a little when coming to full draw.

I had wondered about it effecting string speed. It would be interesting to see a chromo test comparing a naked string to one with brass knock, finger savers, and string silencers.

Considerable R&D has been and continues to be invested in the pursuit to reduce tortional limb twist which is primarily imparted by the finger release string deflection. The No-Glove adds to the tortional deflection at release.

I used the no gloves as long as  I can remember,do not remember it ever being anything but an asset.I never liked gloves or tabs. Can also shoot with light gloves on with no problems.
