Its that time of year and I'm wanting to see those grand Mississippi deer. So post your pictures and a story if you want to.

Just read your story Chad great job! I hunted Saturday and it sure was windy and the temp was a nice 59 degrees on Saturday morning, actually got a little chilled.
ttt
I'll try it again Friday eve. Hope to have a story.
Haven't got out much yet, but hope to in the next couple weeks.
My best friend got a doe yesterday, 200-300 yds from where I killed mine. The place needs another 15-20 taken off of it in my opinion.
Even with a lot of deer there, they are still super spooky and coming out late. Go figure.
Went the Tuesday and had a doe pass by at 50 yards. Still waiting on my first one. This is my second season to bow hunt. I had a 7 point at 25 yards last year and drew back on him, but decided to give him another year(and maybe 5 yards closer). He's on my father in law's place and shows up pretty often so I'm pretty confident I'll get my shot. Good luck to everyone.
Well...had a doe come in at 15 yards yesterday. SHE DUCKED! Oh well, I'm glad it was a clean miss. She was a little skittish as a deer behind me blew once as she approached. She put her head back down and began eating acorns again so I gave her a little longer to relax. Should have aimed low. Her chest just about hit the ground and my arrow skimmed right over her back. It was getting dark so when the arrow hit I thought it was good as I heard a thud. I saw my Nockturnal kick up and thought, "hmmm, did the arrow break?" Nope. Arrow stuck in tree root and nock popped out and went flying. Hopefully get another chance Sunday.
Well I got 2 stands hung in 2 separate white oak groves, but it like to killed me doing it. The heat and humidity is about to much for this old man :biglaugh:
Now it's waiting for next Saturday and the wind and deer to cooperate.
I did hunt up in north MS last Saturday but spent more time helping my friend move his stands. Did give me a chance
to scout some more of the area.
I hear you South. I hung a stand and brushed in a blind today, but didn't sit any. Hopefully a little better weather will arrive soon.
Well, my story thus far is A. It's been hot B. It's been windy C. 4-wheelers have been messing me up lol. I did get a bobcat Tuesday. Maybe this rain today will cool things off and get em movin tomorrow.
I have set the last 3 mornings different brush blinds. Nothing. Cool enough until about 10 but no deer yet.
After passing up 15 shots opening weekend waiting on a buck. I had to loose an arrow. First arrow from new Black River.

Double post
good stuff Will
Charlie,
You should post the pics of that cat.
Nice job Will
Great job Will  Been looking for you to post.
If you don't mind and get a second how about cluing us all in what been going on with you and the Black River bows?
Last year you just threw a teaser out there with your longbow and now I see a recurve :dunno:
Well I am in the process of getting my website up. Been so busy I haven't had time. I have a couple pass around bows in the works if they don't sell before I can actually send them out which has been the problem thus far.
Here a couple curves that went to Mo and Pa last week

  Wowers those are absolutely beautiful!
You have any pic's of your bow strung and unstrung profiles?
Keep me informed on a website, looking good!
Does the name come from the Big Black River?
Yes it's from the Big Black River. Been hunting there all of my life. I can email you all the pics you would like. Bows are very fast smooth and silent.
Man that bottom pic is spectacular! Love to shoot one sometime.
Beautiful bows Will. PM sent
All I can say is guys you better get on the list for a black river bow I just received mine today and I have other top of the line bows and Will did one heck of a job on this one smooth on the draw don't stack and might be the fastest bow I have ever shot and shoots where your looking...thxs again will KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
Very nice Will! Bows too, they look spectacular. Been slow down here, only 1 encounter so far. Doe at 35 yards, got busted trying to close another 10 yards.
Fine looking bows Will!
Great looking bows Will.
Well, been out now for 2 morning and 2 evening sits and seen my first deer or possibly deer's of the season. One slipped in behind me and looked like I had another in the shadows that flicked a tail. Others were just out of sight and I could hears them eating white oaks acorns.
It was "HOT"! About 83 degrees and humid, sweated up real good just walking in about 400 yards.
No shot but at least got my first bout of the shakes :biglaugh:
Mike, I don't know how to post photos here. I've tried to past URL to my Google drive photos unsuccessfully.
I narrowly missed a doe the other evening...she was farther away than I care to admit haha. The cooler weather has been good. I saw Deer all three times I hunted last weekend and this week. All of them were too far, even the one I missed c
Back up... My Bud Possum head has a story for later :goldtooth:
TTT come on Possum Head we all want to hear the story and see some pic's.
You know I'm dumber than a bag of rocks and posting pics would surpass my level of intelligence so a story will have to suffice. If it were a deer worthy, I would simply send it to my trad buddy and he would post it. Anyway, My season began on Saturday before last and my son in law shot one three counties north of here and our hunt ended as he needed to return early. After putting his deer on ice I realized I had time for an evening hunt and set off to do just that. I decided on a place I had found better than a month ago while scouting that was loaded with acorns. I climbed one of the three trees I had marked and raised my bow by 2 o clock. At 3 I heard the dry leaves to my right crunching. Before I could get my bow from my holder a barely legal 6 point (about 11 inches) with a large for this area body, was staring a hole through me. I just knew he was a goner but after about a minute he went to work on the Chestnut oak acorns and sounded like a jaw breaker eating contest. He worked his way from about 4 o clock around to 1 and lacked about 2 more steps before getting his eyes behind a holly tree when he winded me. I think he's still running! Last Saturday I dropped my boy off at a productive tree and headed off to one of my own. Upon arrival I found a lone hog under my tree but he managed to feed off unharmed. My boy spotted 3 but couldn't put an arra in em. After I climbed down I found a tree around the corner of the slew I was on that was loaded and it had a pine next to it that was perfect for a stand. Wednesday evening I knew the west wind forecasted for Thursday was perfect for my approach so I told the boss I would see him Friday. By 8 yesterday morning I was covered in nannys and settled on the firt one headed my way to limit the number of eyeballs that might pick me off. As soon as she stepped behind a willow I drew and she stopped without my help in a broad side text book pose. The arrow found itself a little high and a foot back of where I aimed and she was off. It wasn't a pass through but fell out the exit side after about 15 yd. About 30 more yards there she laid. The reason I didn't hear her crash is that she merely laid down. About the time I saw her she was up on her feet and off again. I had a hunch she wouldn't go far due to how quick she laid down the first time but I thought I would go ahead and pack my stand back to the canoe and give her a little longer. Upon return I found her another 50 steps or so. I had a 2 blade Sasquatch I've always wanted to try and it entered just my side of her spine and exited out of her forward bowels. Her gut stopped any chance of bleeding through the exit and I would have been in a bind if I would have needed to blood trail. I cut her right kidney half into other than that found no substantial wound. The shot was embarrassing and I vow to practice like never before. Probably the whole live target thing that shook me up but still very troubling. Hope you all kill a pile of deer! Possum
I know there's more deer in Mississippi than my brethren are fessing up to. If I see a bullfrog pop up on this thread, I'll know you're holding out on us.
Nice job, Possum!

Will,
Great looking bow to go with that RED!
Woe is me rain tonight guess I'll have to stay home and eat nasty ole backstraps. :goldtooth:
Poor pitiful you :biglaugh:
Will, is that a doe or a buck?
Another doe. Bucks have been scarce so far for me!!
Deer sightings have been scarce for me lol. What few sits I've had, nothing moving. Hunted this morning under a wife oak with acorns littered all over the ground , nothing's but squirrel's.
I had a big cull and a real nice 8pt at 40 yards but second guessing my tree ended up not letting me get a shot. They came out 12 yards from the tree I hooked my climber to before I moved.

Congrats to the killers.
Nice bows Will! Guess you got tired of Widows. Same thing happened to me about 11 years back. I'm about 55 bows into now. Gives you an appreciation of why custom bows cost what they do. In my opinion they are the best deal going. A lot of time and equipment and supplies go into each one.
I have only been able to hunt 4 days so far and I spen three of those on a tractor planting food plots. Headed to Redwood Thursday after work. Hopefully will have some hero pics for y'all Monday.
Been nursing a tennis elbow since June. Had to switch to this aluminum riser rig I built several years ago. It ain't pretty or real traditional looking but for some reason the added mass hurts my elbow less. Hope it still has some mojo in it!
It's the ugly one on the bottom...

Bonner
Dan, looks like the same riser as the wood one on top. You build it as well? Best wishes on your hunt. Possum
Killed another doe yesterday evening, that gives me two with my Schafer this year. I don't know how to post pics here on Tradgang though...
Here is one of Kyle (jkm97) beautiful does, and i'm working on getting the other loaded.
Mobile Photobucket is giving me fits tonight :knothead:
Nice job Kyle!

Kyle,
I have not been able to get that other pic loaded to Photobucket
No worries, thanks for loading the one you did. I'm terrible at taking pictures anyway...
This old gal winded me but didn't trust her nose and came looking for me. (http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad269/Onehair/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-09/2015%20Doe_zpssj9lzz4u.jpg) (http://s942.photobucket.com/user/Onehair/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-09/2015%20Doe_zpssj9lzz4u.jpg.html)
Good shot Mike! She didn't follow ole Tucan Sam's advice "Alwat follow your nose" :saywhat:
I see some old friends have scored. Been in swamp a lot and not online much. Been a good year so far. 1 doe, 1 buck and 2 pigs. Killed my first trad deer Thanksgiving day and this buck on 12/19.
Your doing great JCS on you traditional journey!
I missed my first shot at a doe this year on the 19th :(
First I got caught sleeping and then I didn't bear down on picking a spot and shot over her back.
If I had been paying attention and not napping I would have had a shot at 15' or so, but instead I woke up to the sound of grass being pulled up and there stands a doe right in my shooting window of my natural ground blind set. I wasn't ready.
I watched her for the next 10 minutes as she moved farther away in the food plot, she also had a yearling with her on the other side of the field.
Something spooked her and she ran back pass me but on the opposite side and I thought she was gone, but she stopped and started feeding again. I drew back and waited for her to turn broadside and then proceeded to not pick a spot and shot high.
That seems to be the story of my life :readit:
Glad you guys are having a better go at it then me, and I love reading your stories and seeing the pics.
And oh by the way Travis (Swinestalker) needs to post those recent pic's of his beautiful buck on this thread for historical purposes :bigsmyl:
Killed my first for the year around on Thanksgiving. I got off to a bad start and missed a couple before finally connecting. Used an ugly aluminum riser bow I built a few years back and had cameo dipped.

Been a slow year for me. Killed bunch of does. Had one close encounter with upper 40s lower 50s nine point. The doe he was following busted me trying to draw, shouldn't have taken my eyes off her!
Great job Will!
Will,
Nice doe and with a big hole :scared: Also nice bow! Appreciate the link with pic's of your bow's, need more pic's of your longbows.
