Hey Gang,
For the most part, my hunting season is over for the year. I've decided to share this journey by posting a bunch of photos which are in no particular order. I'll try to get a few photos up daily.
Aloha!

Which island are you on? Sure isn't Oahu! Beautiful!
Yes Pat, I'm on the island of Oahu. The above three are on Oahu, but not all the pics will be of Oahu.
Great pictures
Thank you Mark!

Ryan. Do you shoot a Stalker? You ever get to the mainland for some deer hunting?
Yes David, I have hunted a few years with a Stalker. I've hunted a few times for whitetails.

Good lookin place to hunt! I love that camo too!
How are the goats to eat?
Mahalo Bud! I was considering giving up on all my social media, but Trad Gang has been so good to me over the years. I just couldn't leave.
Thanks Randy! I'm really digging this new Fusion pattern by FL. We really enjoy eating the goats. Roast, curry, smoked, chili, meatloaf, teriyaki, and more. Below are some images. The meat loaf has wild pig and goat.

Looks yummy RY!!
Man, I'm a sucker for a good meatloaf!!
The only goat I've had was prepared by one of my employees wrapped up in a taco. The flavor was really good, but I could have swore I was chewing on a piece of a flat tire! I'm sure it's all in how you prepare it, Like most anything else!
Dang, now I'm hungry!
Thanks Guys and yes the big billy goats can be tough if you don't prepare it well. One of the reasons why we purchased the meat grinder.

out of curiosity, why did you cut the pant legs of your pants and wrap your shins?
Congrats on this years success.
love it! love it! love it! gorgeous country you have to hunt there. someday...
Just let me know Brad!
Thanks Charlie!
I'm experimenting with shorts right now for hot weather. I'm trying to find the right length for hunting. I'm hoping First Lite will come out with a pair soon for hot weather hunting. The things around my shins are knees pads for crawling. I just pull them up on the final stalk. They double as gaiters to keep debris out of my shoes while wearing shorts. I was fortunate and FL came out with the lightweight gaiters at the end of this year. For stalking and climbing in hot, humid weather, it's tough to beat shorts. It's also more quite on the final approach. The only downside is if you don't have lightweight gaiters or if there are a lot of thorns that are shin height.

Ryan,
You've made me homesick for time spent in the islands! Hunted pigs on the Pali, Oahu and the Big Island; sheep on big Island, axis deer on Molokai; and chased mouflon on Lanai but never killed a goat. Will have to get back! Lots of fond memories of shooting on the course on Oahu too.
Aloha,
Todd
Ryan,
Thanks for sharing! Your posts are always enjoyed!
Thanks for sharing Ryan! Looks like you and your wife had an awesome year!
Awesome stuff Ryan!!! Thanks for sharing! :campfire:
Thanks for sharing these with us!

Good to hear from you Riley! They're definitely not as good as your outdoor images, but I do love to snap away...
Sorry but I've been away from social media. I may jump on IG soon, but I'll continue to hang out here if you need to contact me about anything.

images looking good to me bud!!! Looks like you were into some good sheep grounds on lanai during the deer hunt!
I got your email :)
Thank you Christian!
Yeah Riley, the only time I seem to take images of animals is when they're not in season or if I'm taking someone else hunting. If I'm hunting alone or if the animal is in season, the camera hardly leaves the bag. :D
Ryan,
Are theese Mouflon Ram (some call them Corsican ram as well)? Here in France they are a really great rare trophy with trad gear.
Wonderfull topic.
Keep on !!

Yes they are free range Mouflon. These are on the island of Lanai. Aloha!

That's some beautiful country you're in. Congratulations on your hunts and thanks for taking the time to share your pictures.

Awesome brother!!!
Great thread Ryan
Looks like hunting in paradise! Beautiful country and excellent pics. I always like ready your adventures.
Thank you for the additional kind words Gang!
Aloha,
Ryan
Those are some beautiful pictures! I think you did more bowhunting in a season than I'll get to do in my lifetime!
Thank you Archie! We're fortunate in regards to being able to hunt year round within the Islands.
Aloha,
Ryan
Great pictures!! What pack do you have?
Alvin,
It's a Stone Glacier. I have a couple different bags and the one that's in many of the pics is dyed and altered. It's my favorite pack so far and SG's customer service is second to none.
Aloha,
Ryan
Ryan, you surely do live in a paradise!!!!! Beautiful and rugged! Thanks for posting all the great pics, and congrats on all your successes!
Bisch
HA! Im the opposite of you ryan, I take all kinds of photos when hunting! hahahaha Didnt quite see as much mouflon as you though...seen some good ones though!
Mahalo Bisch!
We got to get together one day Riley!
The last few images that I'll leave you guys with are from earlier this year. Doug and I had a few fun days of chasing hogs and goats.

Absolutely stunning Ryan!!! Just out of curiousity - do you encounter much hunting pressure at all?
Thanks so much for putting this together - your eye for photos is outstanding.
I think you'd be surprised how many of us follow your posts and youtube videos...more than you know. You're a bit of an icon here, so keep checking in!!!
Take care and good hunting the rest of the year.
Awesome pics Ryan great to see ya still rocking the Hoyt Buffalo!
Thank you for the kind words Guys!
Jon, the hunting pressure on public land is bad. We struggle with poaching and tons of hunters. The private land areas are really good, but you need money or connections to access those areas. Thank you for the kind words and have a great season!
Great to hear from you Mark! Yeah that buffalo was a shooter! Unfortunately the limbs splintered after a few months and was unable to get replacements.
Aloha Gang!
Ryan
Yes for sure Ryan, maybe this 2016 lanai axis deer season will leave me some time to go out with other people :) ...that is if the deer cooperate and I shoot one early :)
Wow!!! I love the view from where I'm sitting but there is no doubt that that is some rugged terrain. This flat-lander got tired from looking at some of those pictures, lol.
I could not help but notice in one picture it looked like you could have poked that big Axis with an arrow. You put one heck of a stalk on him. Are you allowed to hunt Axis and Mouflon?
I always enjoy your post my friend. When y'all make it to Texas I would love to take y'all on a hunt. The view will be much different here, not necessarily better. Thanks for taking the time to share with us.
Sounds great Riley!
Ben,
Some of those images are from the island of Lanai where there are free range Axis and Mouflon. Axis season is during Feb and Mouflon is during July. This year I went up for Axis. I crawled and got into range a bunch of times. A few of those times the winds switched on me, twice I ran out of daylight, a couple times they caught my movement, one buck jumped my string and a few times I had no shooting lane. I had more than my share of opportunities, I just didn't make it happen.
Thank you very much for the invite! I really appreciate it and the same goes for you if you make it to Oahu during goat season.
Aloha!
Ryan
I can't believe Hoyt would not take care of getting you some replacements? I have a spare set of Medium 55# limbs if they would help you.
Thank you Mark! I really appreciate the offer!
That may be a little to light given my short draw length, but I'll keep you posted!
Mahalo!
Ryan
Ryan,
Beautiful photos. thanks for taking the time and effort to post them.....it's what makes this site great.

I like the idea of the leaves on the back of your hat. I too can't shoot with a cap on and turn my backwards when shooting as well. The leaves will add in some breakup...
Going to borrow that idea mate!
Great pics and well done for getting out there and doing it.
Ak.
Thank you Guys!
Go for it Al! I'm glad you like the idea. I feel the break up of my head helps a little. Plus it's so easy to use.

Anytime Al!
Best of luck on all your future hunting adventures!!!

Ryan
Great stuff right there Ryan. Really appreciate you letting us see your world through pictures!
Super cool stuff.
Ryan, nice, thank you. I often wear the hat from my ghillie outfit. I think I find that having something that changes the outline / profile of a human head and shoulders (the parts animals see peeking above the brush) makes a very big difference. My ghillie hat is of boonie construct ( not much brim in front tho) and has a maybe 10" drape around the back, complete with hangie downie's.
ChuckC
DUDE!! I hope you have a high pressure job and have to deal with nerve racking commuter traffic, and have 3 little kids under 5, because if you don't you are having WAY too much fun
:bigsmyl:
Thanks for taking us along
Thank you guys!
I have a couple ghillie hats too Chuck! I think I might have a similar one as mine drapes in the back as well. The only problem is that I overheat easily and on hot days I need to leave it at home.
LOL Tad! Not all that glitters is gold. ;) Here's an image of my daily drive. It's only a little over 20 miles to work, but on average it takes me 1.5 hours. Yesterday it took me over 2 hours just to get to work. We're tied on kids, but mines are older. Fortunately for me, my wife hunts, so she understands the madness, I mean passion... :D
(http://i.imgur.com/7oMj27B.jpg)
Aloha Gang!
I feel better now
Tad,
In all honesty, it's pretty bad on the island that I live on. We're actually looking at moving to the mainland, somewhere in the country.
The median house prices are slowly reaching $600,000 on Oahu. Just to make a living I have a job that doesn't suit me well, it's a desk job, in the heart of town. My office is a couple blocks from here.
In addition, the public land that we hunt on is heavily poached and unregulated by the local DLNR.
We just try our best to make the most of what we have, but in terms of the outdoors, there's not much left on the island that we live on.
If you ever decide to visit the Islands, Oahu shouldn't be the first choice. ;)
Great pictures Ryan, looks like good hunting. Sad to say that a lot of places on the mainland are rapidly changing to be as bad or close to the traffic jam pic you've posted. My town alone has had a population increase of at least 150,000 in the last 20 years despite what the town government says.
Hat looks great, its got a Creature From The Black Lagoon look to it.
People seldom see the city side of Hawaii. I wouldn't blame you for wanting to escape the congestion.
Thank you Izzy! It's getting crowded everywhere. We're really hoping to find open country one day!
Yeah Charlie, many are shocked when they arrive in Honolulu.
Hey Ryan, My wife and I honeymooned on HI in '84, Maui was nice, but my favorite, we didn't see all the islands, was the big island. Looked like it had a lot of space on it then. We met up with a mutual friend that worked for Fish and Game and he regaled us with stories of packing in with just a bag of rice and living off the land for weeks at a time subsisting on feral goats and hogs.
A big reason for me going back to traditional archery was to get back to the way it was when I was a kid, but... mankind has made a mess of a lot of beautiful country... and there's no going back.
We have to make the best with what we have, and I'd say you're doing a smack-down great job at it!! Keep your dream alive, and, be satisfied with what you're achieving.
As a side note; it's not all bad here in NJ and I am lucky enough to live and work in a very rural setting, I don't even deal with much traffic. And, I had a buck tear-up my 3d target last night!! How cool is that?
That's awesome Tad. Yeah Maui is nice, one of my favorite islands to hunt. It's getting pretty crowded too these days.
Big Island is definitely one of the islands that still have country left. We considered moving there, but felt that we wanted to explore the continental U.S. States.
Bucks in the back yard is definitely a bonus! My dream is to be able to walk out my back door and go hunting.
I'm extremely grateful for my fortunate life, which is why I think we try to make the best of what we have.
It's been great chatting with you. If for some reason you end up on Oahu during goat season (Feb-July) be sure to let me know!
Aloha!
Ryan
