Last Wednesday night I was fortunate enough to harvest my first deer with a trad bow. I'll try to make the story short and sweet. I got off work and headed to the stand. My setup is 16 steps from the edge of a bean field. I sat till nearly dark and decided to get down and skirt the wood line and see if there was anything out in the bean field that I couldn't see from the stand. As I neared a cut through between two bean fields I saw a young doye stick her head up. I imediately put the bow in front of my face in attempt to use the bow and quiver full of arrows to break my outline. She started to feed way and I think curiousity may have gotten the best of her. As she made it to 12 yards and turned quartering to me I hit full draw and the arrow was on its way. The arrow struck with a loud swack! It was a higher hit than anyone likes to see however it was very effective. The deer made a bolt back into the woods thrashing like crazy she ran into the woods and began to circle back to me. She made it back to within 40 yards of me and the woods fell silent. I went to my truck and got a tracking light and within 10 minutes had her back out to the edge of the bean field. It was a fun evening and my family now has some fresh vinison to enjoy. I'll try to post pics. My setup was a tall tines recurve 52lbs at my 27" draw, carbon express heritage arrows tipped with a 4 blade zwickey delta. Thanks to everyone on tradgang for the tuning help and advice over the last few years. I'm very greatful it all came full circle last week.
