With 8 inches of rain expect we're going to have to have some high top boots and maybe a couple of canoes. Not sure if the water will be receded by then....if not the Hogs will be limited to less acreage.
I know Joe, Keith and Alvin will be there..... and I hear armadillo slaying Todd H will be there...And maybe Bob C.....who else?
Sounds like you'll have 'em cornered. Good luck!
Good luck & take your floaties!!! :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Bisch
Where and when?
Week of the 12th?? I'm driving down. And hopefully the rain will push'em all into the pines...
They'll be a lot of floating acorns...and they will push to the edges of the pans full of water.
Some of those pines will require one of those canoes....or hip boots. :readit: :biglaugh:
Just get you some of those camo skeletoes shoes and wade it. Some muddy water would probably make a good cover scent anyway.
I'm down here in Columbus, GA and I'm hoping we don't get too much of the rain. Most of the spots I'm working this season are creek bed / swamps in the hopes of increasing my odds of there either being pigs or a deer coming by. If there's as much rain coming as some folks say my 3 legged stool is gonna need an anchor.
Yeah....Wild Things. ....
I haven't heard how much rain Columbus is getting but they're calling for eight inches in South Carolina.
Oh don't worry I will wade if necessary ...that surely won't stop me from hunting.
I remember once at the Paradise when Joe's Road became Joe's island and we chased hogs for two days round n round.
HOLY COW. ....THEY JUST UPDATED IT TO 12 TO 18 INCHES for SC !!!
And calling for catastrophic flooding :scared: :scared: :scared:
Gee Terry, It will be like shooting pigs in a... well...... swamp river.....
Good luck guys.
I just hope Wild Things don't float away.
Smokin Joe should be the last guy in that group who didn't sound off.
I talked to Andrew yesterday for a few minutes, he said most of the <24 hour old sign was in the open where they appeared to be using the rain softened ground for hitting grubs/worms. I agree the tide of acorns could be perfect about the time you guys get there.
He also said he drove up on *30 of them between the turkey foot and Mullberry and they didn't even stand up until the Gator was within 40 yards. If rains continue like you say, you'll need to punch in from Blue Lake side to get to them.
I should get some more info over the next couple days, I'll drop any relevant updates on this thread for you guys.
Thom

That's SCARY!!!!....you read my mind!!!
Don't worry, I'm sure the 12 footer has probably moved on.... :scared:
Thom
No worries....I have a life or death gator tag ;>)
when is this hunt going down?
This is the October 13-17 hunt. I think 4 guys arrive on the 12th, and 3 guys arrive the 15th if I recall correctly.
Thom
According to the site, one spot is left....
http://www.huntwildthings.com/schedule.htm
It's filled i think .....need to ask Thom to make sure but I'm taking an employee and that was supposedly the last spot. ....but Thom would know for sure..... not many of the others posting here that's for sure
I'm still trying to figure out if Jack is coming as planned, or if he needed to postpone to a different week. I marked the hunt as full until I get confirmation, but there might be a last minute opening.
If folks are thinking about joining a hunt, it sounds like a few individual hunters are eyeing the November 10-14 hunt. That might be a good one to inquire about. After that it's pretty full for quite a while.
Thom
We will all probably get pretty wet, but we will be a happy bunch. :bigsmyl:
I think the hogs might be a bit concentrated if the swamp water and river are high, unless they learn how to tread water. :bigsmyl:
I just finished my hog arrows. After a lot of fiddling around with a new carbon shaft/head combination, I decided to go back to my 585 gr 2117 hog arrow with a 3-blade VPA up front. Those VPA broadheads sure can get crazy sharp...I mean like a barber's razor. Wow! Must be some pretty good steel.
That's good medicine for hogs Joe......most of my hogs were killed with 585 grain arrows and 3 or 4 blades......
Yeah. ...looking forward to it.....and getting wet is no problem....probably take care of that 1st thing every outing.
I think it's gonna be a good hunt !!!
Yep. Here is a look at this year's hog medicine. They shoot like laser beams.

Have fun fellas, I have a big red sow picked out for March, let her be.
I love em Joe.....they are already red !!!
That looks like a really sweet arrow Joe! PLEASE shoot a hog with it so we can know if it works as good as it looks!
Thom
Bear Super Razorheads for me. Gifted by Jack from our last hunt there.
Looking forward to it.
Thom and Terry: Will do. My arrows are in colors that represent some good things in my life -- and I put all of the good mojo I could muster into assembling them.
Bud: Love those Bear razorheads. They are classic.
Counting the days now.
By the way, I am making the presentation arrow this year or all of us to sign and present to Andrew to commemorate Trad Gang Hog Wild Revenge Hunt II. Almost done with it.
I'll bring it with me.
Terry, I hope you packed your flippers and face mask for this hunt. You might need them. Also, you may want to read Howard Hill's story of shooting the bow underwater. Good luck!

And don't forget your snorkel. :-))
That's cool Joe....staying with tradition. ... here's the one I did last year from Kootenai....

Have fun you all.
Got a note from a Wildlife officer here in TN... the team of "possum cops" were "activated" Sunday...4 already were off to Charleston to evacuate people...and he was figuring he'd be sent to Myrtle Beach...
Sounds gnarly!
Watch out for slither tails! After re-watching Lonesome Dove, Oye! :scared:
I talked to Andrew yesterday and he said actual rainfall at the camp was 2" during the big storm.
Sounds like steady drizzles are light, but will be continuing for the next 2-3 days.
Roads are very slippery on the property, but no flooding at this point. The entire property is still accessible. If it slacks off it just might dry out a bit for you guys!
By the way, email sent to you fellas :readit:

Only 2" ?
They dodged a bullet 'cause it sounds like the rest of the state is floating away.

You can say that again.
Looking forward to hunt stories.
Checking SCDOT's website, my route shows some road closures. Hopefully thing will clear some by next Monday.

More than dodged a bullet, more like a mercy of God sort of situation. Look at the rainfall totals and it is the lowest amount recorded in the entire state of South Carolina.
Bud, I agree you NC boys probably want to do some route planning before you leave.
Thom

Thom,
Thanks for all of your help, information sharing, and good advice. It may take a while to get from NC to Andrew's this year, but it will sure be worth it.
I'll do my best to keep you posted on how things develop once I get there.
I am sure we will have some great stories to tell.
Joe

Cool
Hey Terry, good news coming out of the swamp. Sounds like somebody's practice paid off on his very first sit :bigsmyl:
Thom
Hey sounds like y'all are off to a good start save a hotspot for my buddy I'm bringing Alvin's never seen a hog see you tomorrow 1:30 or 2
But he's been practicing real hard on the target I think he's ready
Good luck fellas!!!
Do I smell bacon? :campfire:
Gonna bring this one up! :campfire:
It's the wait that kills me!
:coffee:
Somebody must be really busy butchering to leave us in suspense like this!
Thom
No butchering here.
I did see 6 hogs total. One the first evening and Thursday I got on five and bumped them for over an hour. I stayed with them and they spooked five times. I got within 20-25 yards each time. The final time a doe I didn't see blew and that set the swamp alive and the squirrels got jittery so the hogs vacated. When I bumped them, they'd go about 30 yards and back to rooting.
I saw 16 deer, two of which were trophy bucks. Th rut is on in Estill. I missed a deer on Friday. Shot was a smidge above center chest but it string jumped and dipped below the arrow.
There's a turkey infestation at Wild Things.
Strangest thing I saw was two copperheads either fighting or mating. They were behind my stand and were at it for about 30ish minutes, give or take. It was either a heck of a fight or one heck of a endurance session.
And of course Andrew is the finest host one could hope for. He is so accommodating to anything food and all things hogs.
I have a little intel, Thom. -
If you're headed down to Wild Things, I suggest you make some hog candy. That seemed to be the ticket. Find a hot spot and candy it up.

Thanks for the report Bud, I will call you sometime to talk about the trees you found for the climbers and that secret spot I told you about. I'm holding some high hopes for it in the long run.
Those copperheads would creep me out. I will never get used to seeing them slithering around.
Thom
You guys feel free to start a new thread if you like...I was just wanting to gather intel on who what when and IF with all that rain that was suppose to hit.
I have a lot of pics....and a few stories to tell....but ya'll start a new one if you wish. I didn't mean for this one to be the 'official' thread or steal anyone's thunder.
:campfire:
Good thinking, I think the butcher should start the thread!
Thom
The butcher is totally swamped with work right now but rest assured that I will start a new post soon!
OK Todd...but till then....I'm getting hungry.....
so I'll eat while I wait....
Best get started Todd....Echo is finishing off yesterdays lunch. All that's left is the ball joint....the blade was gone in 3 minutes!!!
