I hunt goats and pigs on the island of Oahu pretty frequently. I do my best to keep my freezer full and those of my close friends and hunting buddies.
Today my good friend David who has been out for a year due to a pretty serious ankle injury made it to one of the toughest hunting areas in the islands. After 3 hours of hiking/climbing we were able to get onto a herd of goats in a hidden valley area neither of us had explored before.
There were probably 200+ goats in this little valley. The sight was pretty incredible. But that is a lot of eyes.
Slowly we crept. Yet as we approached the ridge there seemed to be a hail of gun fire. We were not in any danger and I cannot grumble (it is rifle season after all), but we heard at least 15 shots as we sat and waited to see how the herd would react to the noise.
The goats began to move slowly towards us moving away from the noise coming from a couple ridges over.
With a few adjustments and a bit of rock climbing, I was able to position myself for a shot. I waited for it, and let it fly. After a long fall, the goat was groceries.
I cannot describe the feeling I have after this hunt. A good friend made it back to the woods, we both have a freezer full of good meat, and getting it done when the animals are at their most alert is awesome. I am really having fun with this!
On top of that I saw three pretty nice size pigs on the way out!

Thank you all! It is a steep and beautiful place. I am blessed to be able to be there.
The hardest part about hunting goats is getting to them. (My girlfriend tells me I'm part goat all the time. you may be onto something).
Awesome!!!
Tough terrain, highly pressured public land and during rifle season! You're a STUD Mstrum! :notworthy:

Nice one,
Beautiful looking country there. I'm pretty partial to goat curry or roast leg myself.
Happy hunting,
Memo.
