Title: Tell me why you love your widow
Post by: mark Willoughby on September 26, 2015, 12:54:00 PM
What's up gang just like the title says tell me why you love that Blackwidow Please include your bows stats and as always eye candy is always welcome

For me personally my 62 inch 42 @ 29 psa is the best thing I've personally ever put in my hands whisper quiet and always seems to put a arrow right where I want it not to mention its draws smoother and shoots harder than anything I've ever shot well worth the price tag in my eyes

Can't wait to hear you guys thoughts on these fine bows

My PSAX Bocote is 53@29 and 60" long. It's been my go to bow since 2008. I am more consistent shooting it than any other bow.  I was thinking of using my PCH or Bear TD this year and was practicing with them to hunt but the PSA won out. I guess I felt a little bad about leaving it behind.

I have two Widows:

1: PLX RH 66" 46#@28
2: PLX RH 64" 48#@28

These are two bows that I will never sell. They are bench marks, built like tanks, stable, quite, and just a joy to shoot. They are built the way a bow should be built. I have bows a little faster, but they are every bit as stable, shock free, and as quiet as any bow I have ever shot. There is just something about a Widow that when you own one and shoot it for a while you just can't let her go. Black Widow hasn't been in business for all these years for nothing.

My four favorite bowyers are:

A&H
Toelke
JD Berry
Black Widow

If I had to make a choice, I couldn't do it. This is why I will never become a 1 bow man.

Highlow, just a widda bit. :-))

My wife got me my first one in the early 90s, a 2nd hand MA11 62" 53#@28". It was love at first sight/arrow. I still have it and it is still a fantastic bow. For me it's so easy to shoot.

I also have a 2008 PSAX 62" 51# @28" that my wife and son got me for my birthday, and it also is a fantastic bow. Widow makes one of the best if not THE best bow for me.

Excellent craftsmanship, shoots hard and fast, looks very beautiful to my eye.

Hmm... I've heard that about a lot of other bows.  What makes that little bit of difference?

Well...

Perhaps the best customer service of any company I've ever purchased anything from.  A brand and product that is consistent,  tried and true, with decades of very satisfied customers.  Relative security that if I need new limbs or further service, the company will still be in operation over the long run.  I don't work for them, they don't give me any secret discounts... I'm just a really satisfied  customer.

I have a Golden Anniversary PL II that is 57#28.  I love the speed, smooth draw, consistent grip, and stability it offers.  The greatness doesn't end with shooting it, I personally like Grey Bark the best of all choices available and carrying this bow through the woods is a dream as the balance couldn't be better.  Just holding it puts a smile on my face.

I agree with all of you !! It seems that's there is one thing in common for all of us and that's the fact that there is somthing notably special about one of these bows when there in your hands ... And they do have awesome customer service !!

Don't own one but a friend has a 58" 50# that I keep threatening to steal it. Shoot it well, that's all that matters to me

I have a PCHX green leaf cross grain....58" 54/27 and now a PMAX Osage 58", 53/27.  To me they are the most solid and stable bows I've ever shot, not to mention their distinctive look and great customer service.  They're extremely tunable and a household name in traditional archery.  I've had compound friends shoot my widow and order one.  I've yet to meet a widow I didn't like.

The widow I'm dating is loaded and lets me hunt as much as I want. What more could I ask for.

They are bows built for hunters by hunters , are bomb proof and shoot better for me than any other brand I've ever shot , my 60 in PSA draws smoother than any recurve I've ever owned and my 64 in PLV take down has good mass weight and shoots awesome. All thier bows have a very solid feel to them and for good reason.  I've owned alot of high end bows  and have found BW and the people that build them to be at the top of the game

As almost all have said, I seem to shoot my Widows better than any of the bows I've owned. I've owned or shot most of the high end bows, but I keep grabbing the A Widow from the rack. Right now I own my SA ll that I bought new in '95, a KB X and a PSR V. i just love'em. I got to know Roger and Toby from a few bear hunts over the years, you won't find better people to deal with!!

The truth is there are many excellent custom bowyers these days and determining which one might be a cut above all the rest is more than likely conjecture. I recently purchased a new custom made bow and the decision to do so took me a little over a year to decide. A new custom bow can be a substantial investment these days and for a guy about to be 71 years old may not be the wisest nor most frugal decision. I know, some of you are thinking, what does that have to do with it. For old retirees living on fixed incomes it can mean a great deal. Anyway, for me it came down to three tried and true bowyers that have been in business for many years. I currently own at least one each of the bowyers' bows and like all three a great deal but I had to decide which one would build my new bow. All three would have made the bow from the woods I wanted and all three would have made a quality performing bow and all three have customer service second to none. My decision was determined by which bow I seemed to shoot more consistently with the most confidence most of the time, though I enjoy shooting and have taken game with all three. One other thing that influenced my decision was the time it took to get the bow once ordered. At 70 that can make a difference. The three bowyers were Schafer, Blacktail, and Black Widow and as you can probably guess I decided on Black Widow. I do not regret making that decision thought the other two bowyers are exceptional in every way. My new Black Widow is awesome and I enjoy shooting it. It is made from the two woods I have wanted for several years now Macassar and Black & White Ebony. As far as monetary investment involved I am certain it was the least of the three but in no way was it the least in aesthetics or performance and durability. I love my new SAXS and it is definitely an exceptional shooter.
