I have been applying for thirteen years to draw a tag for this area. A good friend told me he had a 400 acre piece of private land I could hunt I jumped at the chance.
They allow 1 person a year to hunt it most hunt with a gun out of the blind. I chose the stand location above the blind where David and I set the ladder stand.

We had a bunch of pictures of this bear on trail cameras over the last few weeks. These were taken moments before I took the shot

I was hunting with My 58" Classic longbow. 45@28 CX hertitage 90 Arrows And Ace Standard 160 Broadheads. The bear went 60 yards weighed 190 lbs. I hunted only 1 hour and 45 minutes on the first day in the stand when he came in and watched him for 15 minutes.

Takes 13 to draw Baldwin 7 to draw Redoak good luck when you do. I should draw a Baldwin tag next year.
Congratulations! Very nice bear, and a great story.
Very nice "Sweetie". I can't wait to hear the story first hand. I hope you and David will be in St. Augustine.

Yes, my 2008 bear was a coveted Baldwin unit bear. I had been putting in since the inception of point system back in late 1990's. My next one I'm going for would be Red Oak. With Baldwin unit, they're giving out about 70 permits a year and there's 2100 applying in that unit right now. Some of those layers (ie those applying with 12 points) have 100-200 applicants, so it will take two years just for that layer to draw tags. The way I figured it, it would be 30 years before I drew another Baldwin Unit tag starting from scratch after my 2008 bear. That's too long, so I'm jumping over to the Red Oak. Still want to do it all myself, thus that effectively takes the Upper Peninsula off my list.
Congrats, couldn't happen to a nicer lady!
:clapper: :shaka: Congrats! on a great bear, and cool you got trail cam pictures to boot. I'm always amazed at how quiet bears are when they come in, one minute nothing then you look again and surprise. Congrats again, and good luck with our up coming bow season.
Great Job Tracy!

We are looking forward to it Jack. Trying to get there it will be a hectic 5 weeks.
Be proud! Thx for sharing...
Way to go, Tracy! HOWEVER, I'd have thought a true traditional archer would have just wrapped a piece of hemp rope around that bear and dragged it out! What's with the 4-wheeler and sled? Seems a bit hi-tech don't you think?
Tracey--
Great job young lady
I'll make sure we have something to toast to that bruin next time I see you and David. I hope your season continues with the same fine results.
