this is a fly agaric mushroom. Amanita muscaria.
Not edible, however, these mushrooms were used in shamanic rituals in Siberia and are said to have a psychoactive effect.

Yeah, the old vikings used it too. Made an extract from them for use in battle. Said to make them fearless berserkers...
