Title: Unknown early Bear Bow
Post by: captaincvx on September 12, 2015, 01:42:00 PM
I am seeking information on a Bear bow that I purchased a few weeks ago. The bow in question is unmarked except for the words "Bear Archery" which is on the belly side of the bow and the initials EF on the side with the backing. There is no serial number or weight and no evidence of ever having any decals applied. I had thought it might be a deerslayer but the backing does not appear to be fiberglass. I have not attempted to string the bow for fear of breaking it so it hangs on my family room wall for now. I would appreciate any information or opinions you might offer. Pictures on link below.

I wouldn't string it either if I had it!

It is a neat old bow! I wish I could help identify it.

Pretty Neat find.

I agree with Whips suggestion.  It could be a prototype?

Not a prototype. Bear Archery Deerslayer I would guess it was made in the mid 40's. From what I've been told the letters indicate the poundage.

A-10#  A-1#
B-20#  B-2#
C-30#  C-3#
D-40#  D-4#
E-50#  E-5#
F-60#  F-6#
So the EF would translate to 56# I have a Deerslayer marked FJ so it would be 67#

Thank you. The letters make sense to me now.
