Title: Bear Takedown, Last year for 'C' riser?
Post by: ANick on September 12, 2015, 02:26:00 AM
What year was the last for the 'C' riser for the Bear TD bows?

Trying to sort strings for several Bear takedown set ups. "Older limbs use B-50" seems to be the order of the day.

Fast Flight came out 1972-ish so sometime after that I would expect the Bear bows to have been upgraded to handle the new strings.

If original limbs show length and poundage for 'C' riser... is that a reliable indicator of being 'Older', for the purpose of bowstring selection?

I don't know the answer as to the dates but I would use B50 as the default string on any vintage limbs.

I bought a new Fred Bear Takedown in 1997 in Gainesville.. I was told 1997 was the first year the takedowns were built for FF strings..

Those white limbs will not take FF. I have a set to prove. I bought a Mag C for the riser. The previous owner gave me the limbs and told me he was using FF without padded loops. The string sheared the limb tip lams in two.
I use B55 string made by Alan of ten ring on my 72SK. Much improvement over factory B50 strings that were made for mountain climbing.
