Title: Any EHD?
Post by: VA Elite on September 11, 2015, 02:10:00 PM
Last year here in VA we had a bad episode of EHD in the eastern part of the state. Have not heard much this year. What is happening in your neck of the woods? Any signs of it?

We lost huge amounts of deer in isolated areas 4 years ago. This year is ok for EHD, but we found some CWD to play with instead. Ya' get bored with only one nasty disease after a few years. Thank God for fly fishing.

About 50 reported dead deer to EHD in my county- Anderson in KY.  I've heard about a farm with several older bucks dead. Hopefully, not where I am -1-2 miles away.  Although a solo fawn in the yard every day or two makes me wonder about the Doe.

I was told it happens every year, but on a smaller scale than most of us would recognize. The year we had a huge die off it was disgusting in heavily hit areas. All the deer died and the smell was beyond tolerable. I tried to hunt, but quickly realized it was futile. Zero deer, zero sign and the smell "made me sick" because I knew what it was from. The tiny Maple River was full of dead deer.

Just came across forkhorn this morning while squirrel, groundhog hunting. He was eating honeysuckle, but was just a bag of bones.

Two nights ago, my Shepherd came across another Forky, he took off for the creek, fell down the bank , and drowned! Skin an bones, too!

Labor day morning, squirrel hunting, walked around the bend in the creek to find a doe sitting in a pool below a sycamore. She was still alive, but wouldn't move.

Please stop!
