So, after hearing about it and reading about it a bunch, I went over to the Compton facebook page and then their website to check it out. I ended up submitting a membership application simply because their ideals and objectives are worthy, and since I can't/don't do much for the sport as a whole, I can at least financially support those who are actually in the trenches. I'm still on the fence about renewing my PBS membership, so I thought maybe a year of trying out Comptons may be worthwhile. What can folks tell me about this organization? I searched here for it but didn't find much more than info on the shoots and stuff. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Compton is a great organization that works hard to promote traditional archery, bow hunting and get kids involved in the sport. The guys on the Board are legit and work hard for the members. What I like about the Board is it is not a old school, debate thing for years before making a decision type of Board. They try to keep things fresh and communicate well with the members. The Rendezvous in Berrien Springs Michigan and the Big Game classic are top notch and put on very well.
One big thing Compton is doing is the Archives program. They are scoring and archiving animals ethically harvested by Trad bows. This record keeping is not designed for bragging rights but as a well documented record of what a Trad bow can do and that it is a powerful, ethical, lethal way of taking all big game species. This could be very useful in future if groups challenge our hunting rights or try to come at us from the angle the trad bows should not be legal to hunt with. Hey, in this world it's a reality for the anti movement to try this.
Anyway it's a good organization built around what you love, bow hunting. Once you get your first magazine you will get more filled in. Feel free to reach our to any Board Members also.
Unfortunately they don't seem to be on Tradgang much and very little info is put on the Compton Forum.
I have a feeling you will be glad you joined, especially after you attend an event. I don't have the exact stats but my guess is that Compton is growing faster than similar organization, there is a reason.

I am a member of both Compton and PBS. Both are very good organizations to support.

well said jack hoyt
I am also in PBS and a charter member of comptons. I think Comptons is more active and actually currently doing more for trad bowhunters than PBS is. or at least that's how I feel.
I may be wrong, but I think Comptons was originally formed when the PBS wouldn't go 100% traditional.
