I'm on my first traditional bow hunt, scouring the hillside for Mule Deer and scouting for Elk which opens in a week. I've seen some elk, but no deer. Today has sure been fun though, and I got my first trad kill - a big old Blue Grouse that I shot out of a tree. He was about 30 feet up and making all sorts of noise. My dad and I have seen a ton of Grouse and had a few close shots. I was finally able to stick this one with my 125gr Judo Point. Shooting a 50# Omega Delta Shortbow.

I really want to go on a grouse hunt. It appears to be like "stumping" but with live game.. sounds awesome to me!

Congratulations!! Thanks for sharing and sounds like a great hunt!
Way to go. We don't got none uh dem dumbies here in NJ. What we do have, and they are few and far between now, won't let you get within 30 yds. much less wait for you to draw a bow. I couldn't even hit them with a shotgun when I hunted them years ago. We call them "thunder chickens" and for good reason. Almost make you lose control of certain sphincter muscles when they take off.
Reminded me of ptarmigan hunting in Alaska back in the 80s. Thanks for posting and congrats!
Great pics and great looking bow. Congrats.
Nice! Good shooting.

A Judo-tipped arrow is part of my arsenal for elk every year for this very reason. :)

Good work! I love a blue grouse roasted on a stick over the coals!
Careful grouse are addictive. I sometimes forget I am elk hunting when the grouse are thick ha ha.
