Title: Bugs!
Post by: KentuckyTJ on September 04, 2015, 08:49:00 AM
Is anyone else finding the gnats and skeeters to be horrible this year? Was out yesterday walking around midday and thought they were going to drive me crazy. I have never seen them this bad. We usually have some at dusk but never midday like this.

I was out putting up a ladder stand last week and cutting firewood yesterday. Buffalo nats are terrible, vanilla works for them, mosquitoes we always have them, buggins with deet is pretty good also a thermacell is good if no breeze.

Hoping for some cooler weather.....   :readit:

You won't catch me out of the A/C until things cool off significantly. Mosquitoes and heat are out of control.

According to KY bioligists and fish/game. KY's Bat population has been decimated by "white nose syndrome" which is some sort of fungal bacteria. So the Miosquitos run rampant with nothing to prey on them. I can't even walk in the backyard with out some sort of repellant on.

Pretty brutal down here in the swamp with all the rain we've been having. Can of cutter at the front and back door and think I should have bought stock in Thermacell!

Here in Massachusetts, my 12 year, old who lives to be in the woods, asked if we could leave.
Bugs were terrible.

I didn't have problems with bugs this morning. 80 degrees by 9:30 was the problem.

Lost high frequency hearing a while back so don't hear the whine of skeeters like I once did, but then hours later, welts swell up for 10 days and itch like fire.

My garden had terrible plant bug infestations in dry May and early June, then monsoons came for 6 weeks latter part of June and all of July. That brought all sorts of wet soil garden issues and set up great breeding for blood suckers!  Now they're cutting hay and it's dislocating all the biting critters!

Grrr...

Shockingly we have very few here.  Our very dry summer has resulted in almost no mosquitoes.  I am not going to complain.

Ive started using the permethrin that used on cattle biught at R.K for 6.99. Just need a 1/2 oz in a big spray bottle. Goes a long way. Just besure your clothes are dried all that he way before putting them on.

As much as I hate the idea of carrying more stuff I might break down and get a thermacell. Bugs are insane this year.

I like permethrin too, I treat my ASAT leafy suit with it and I'm bug free.

The skeeters were really bad here but they've settled down some. The gnats are still quite pesky and spiders.........spider webs everywhere.
You'd hope they'd catch more gnats.
