Another value-related question... I have a completely bamboo John Schulz bow. Writing on one limb says, "The Tonkin," and on the other, "American Longbow." It's RH, dated 1962 (that's 53 years ago).
Weight though is odd. I have to assume it's a custom made bow. It's 58# @ 25", so a short draw. It's 63" unstrung and in exc condition. I've owned a number of Schulz bows--this is the only cane bow of his I've seen. I view it as a collectable rather than an everyday shooter.
Any idea of current value? Thanks!
That is not from 1962, rather from the mid 1980's. The 62, first numbers of the serial number are the length, 62" bow from string nock to string nock. All of these Schulz bows were custom made as this one is for an Archer with a 25" draw, no more. That is why the bow is not longer.
I have several Schulz all bamboo bows, 64" and 66". Their serial numbers start with 64 or 66 respectively. They are for longer draws, 64" for 26" draw and 66" for 27-28" draw.
All Schulz bows serial number starts with the numbers associated with the length of that particular bow.
$400-600 tops because of the length, less archers with that short of draw.

The Tonkin bows tended to crack on the belly just above the riser. I was told Tonkin cane doesn't work well on the compression side.
