Title: Hog hunting around Montgomery, Tx.
Post by: Dakotaf34 on August 31, 2015, 09:20:00 AM
Hi,

I'll be in Montgomery Texas for a work trip in the later part of September. Does anyone know of any public land or outfitters out that way that might help me stick a pig while I'm there? I'm from Louisiana and was looking at the licensing and regulations last night, but I think I have more questions than answers after reading up on it. So any advice about that will be appreciated as well.

Thanks!
Dakota

Dakota,

from my understanding all you need is a license from walmart.  Should be around $48 if I remember correctly.

Check with the TxP&W webpage. There is a WMA program that costs very little to sign up.
They will mail you a book of maps that show you the areas.BooKoos of areas in East Texas..not so much out here in West Texas.
Go during the week if possible. Some do allow the "B" word so please check first.
Mike

My lease is just north of Montgomery and there are lots of hogs up there.  If you plan on hunting the public areas, try the western edge of the national forest near Bethel road.  Shoot me a pm when you get here.

Montgomery is just on the edge of a National Forest that is full of hogs.  You need a hunting license and a $48 public land permit.  Kill all you want, any hour of the day or night, any method.  Come back all year long.

Be aware, you may encounter a lot of activity this time of year.  Archery season for deer opens Oct. 3rd.  Lots of last minute scouting and stand placement going on I would imagine.  With its close proximity to Houston, this is a much 'loved' resource for hunters in this state.
