Cool man. Looks like it should be good for you this season. I should get one of those trail cam things looks like it would be great for scouting.
-
I'm ready!!!! What's in that yotes mouth?
-
Sweet!! That nine point has got it goin' on, doesn't he?
I've been hunting for a long time, and I've yet to see one of those piebald turkeys. Pretty cool.
Good luck!! Thanks Kenny.
Bob
-
Darrel, it's a rabbit, head and ear are just under Mr. Yote's neck.
Bob, the 9 is a good deer, had a mainframe 8 last year that had huge mass, but don't think this is same deer, the 8 had 3 little stickers on front of both mains at bases, this one is pretty clean. Still hoping to see the 8 again.
Dave, the cams are fun, just use em to see what we have around, they aren't much good for me for scouting. I rely on tracks, trails, food sources and such.
-
Nice! Save that big one for me. :D
-
Great pics. I really love that turkey. I saw several of those while at a 3D shoot this year in person. If I ever get to shoot one, it will get mounted, hen or tom!
Good luck to everybody hunting with you this year, Kenny!
Bisch
-
Hey Kenny, ya'll ever get any pigs down there?
-
Tim, I'll have a little trouble talkin anyone out of taking that one! LOL
Bisch, that is the prettiest partly white one I've seen, think it's a tom too. Only have 2 sets of pics, so those kittys and yotes may have already beat us to it!
Way South on the pigs, Joe. And I don't think the MDC wants us chasin em . Say it makes it hard for them to kill em....
-
Hot dog man! I was ready to come back when I pulled out of the drive from the cabin last year. Can't wait. Made myself a new longbow just for this hunt.
-
Good stuff Kenny, I look forward to following along with all your guests.
-
Kenny, you got any openings for this year?
RW
-
The end of October can't get here soon enough :bigsmyl:
So looking forward to seeing Kenny and my hunting buddy's again. :campfire:
Tracy
-
Kenny, can't wait to shake your hand again, venison is the freezer is just a bonus. Time spent with great friends is what it's all about.
:bigsmyl:
-
I can't wait to see you guys!! Always exciting to hear what everyone saw on the days hunt !
Roy, we are full up this year, but no cost to put you on the list for next year.
It's coming guys!! Acorns are starting to fall, leaves are starting to turn, won't be long !!
-
Wow and after missing two years due to family stuff all dimpling making out this year.
:campfire:
-
Lookin forward to seein you T, you been gone too long!!
-
Are the acorns raining on the cabin roof this year Kenny?
-
Kenny....I'm going to send you a package. ...then you can call me.
;)
-
I'm Ready!!!!
-
What crops this time?
-
Sorry guys. Haven't had much signal, will call you T when I can see what you're up to... :D
Charlie, there are no crops on the lease cept acorns which are dropping , they have mowed both farms which I think will keep deer somewhat to the brush lines.
Too much rain this spring and summer!
I'll be back more in the loop soon, promise!! :bigsmyl:
-
Sounds good buddy.
-
I know Mike and I and our two friends are getting ready! Can't wait to meet you in person Kenny.... Any helpful advice would be appreciated as this is our first year up there....
-
The conditions on the farms change every year depending on food sources. This will be the first year without crops so emphasis will be on acorns where they exist.
There are deer everywhere on the farms so burn a little boot leather the first day and use your sign reading skills. We'll all be facing the same issues.
And be sure and pay attention to Kenny. Nobody knows the deer in that area better.
You can also search past hunt threads for hints.
-
Thanks Charlie!!!
-
I won't be there until the last hunt in early January. The acorns may be gone by then. Kenny, is there crops on the surrounding properties? Can't wait. Chad
-
Hey guys, back in action here!!
Here is how it stacks up on the crop situation....
South farm -
Corn in bottom to West
Soybeans to the Northwest
Corn to the Northeast
North farm-
Corn in middle to North
I have more buck pics on north farm, guess they are going from the tree farm bedding South to the corn North.
Things change constantly, so what is happening today may be done tomorrow. Charlie's thought of burning boot leather may be the best to keep up...
Actually rubber boots are better, as to not leave scent everywhere!

got another pic somewhere I'd like to share, but it is in cyberspace and haven't found it yet... :knothead:
-
WOW!
-
Can't help but think that trad bowhunting only has been real good for both farms.
-
I think so too Charlie, and it gives the deer a place to hole up during the gun season. That's why the later hunts are good also!
-
Oh, and Charlie, haven't seen much for acorns on the cabin tree. Tracy said he thought it was sick, may be. Hasn't had acorns for 3? years?
But the tree in the fence corner SE of big pond on North place is loaded, I saw today when I put up a couple of stands up there......
Not by that tree.... :D
-
Took a short road tour tonite, the $2 tour. Saw 22 does/fawns , no bucks which didn't surprise me any. When the velvet comes off, they stay hidden for a bit....
(http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/2015%20HUNTING%20LEASE/IMG_1078_zpsgsp8yzk5.jpg) (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/kennym/media/2015%20HUNTING%20LEASE/IMG_1078_zpsgsp8yzk5.jpg.html)

Most were in weed and hay fields, soybeans have already lost the taste I guess.....
These 2 pics are on the North lease farm, looking from road toward the little bottom between the rock crossing and the huge cottonwood....
-
Not a bad zoom for a cheap camera, eh?
-
With the weather cooling I'm starting to get the "itch". Need to go retrieve a camera tomorrow.
-
These 45* mornings will def do that buddy!!
-
Good luck Guys. I've never seen so many varieties of oak trees in my life. surely one will be dropping good.
Kenny, I'm praying you still have the lease when I am in a more commutable location.
-
Well, the ol gap stand still has it. NE wind tonite so I parked SE up the hill from the old tractor and eased in. Just got settled in and 2 nice does came from S and crossed at 18 yards.
I wasn't ready anyway and they were a bit to the right of me. Didn't wanna stand up cause the stand had been pinging a little. I hate that. Is there a ladder that doesn't do that?
Then 3 more that didn't make it in range from the SE across the field.
Then a smaller doe and small fawn from the W that came by at 8' from the ladder base.
Then saw 6 more in the headlights on the way back to road..
All in all, a great first hunt for the year!! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
-
Oh, and Charlie, the cabin oak does have acorns! They were denting the porch roof today when I was there!! LOL
-
Funny Kenny I noticed that pinging 3 years ago maybe a little WD 40 in the right spot will stop that. I've had a couple of Stan that I had to spray in a couple of areas before the quiet them down
-
I'm about ready to sell them and build some with no bolted joints. Got a plan going, will get input from everyone when they are here....
-
If you look at the gap stand from the north, it really stands out. Last year we were up the hill looking down toward it and the southern sun was shining off it. We wondered out loud if that was the best tree for the stand.
-
Don't know but only buck last year from it and another buck last eve went down.... :bigsmyl:
-
what no pic Kenny? ;)
-
Great...just great...now they have added a MONDAY SHOW!!!!
-
Barry, will try to get one up tonite. P bucket I can't do on fone.
Dang T , we may have to do a frog hunt during summer vacation. Hope you can make it bud!!

Sorry bout that!
-
My guys are all wondering if the ticks and chiggers have disappeared yet :)
-
The guys there now say none of either. I haven't seen a tick for a few weeks, and stood in tall grass fishing Sunday with no chiggers. But Mike and Steve got in the chiggers in October a couple years ago. Rubber boots will keep most of em back and helps keep the deer from patterning you as quick too.
-
Kenny, them chiggers have a delayed reaction. Was home for a week before the itching and scratching kicked in. Tried to talk Steve into doing the first hunt this year but he'd have none of that, he's been traumatized. No frost-no go.
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
-
Here is Clint's 9 point, he was tickled as could be!!
(http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/kennym/IMG_1145_zpsnypciroq.jpg) (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/kennym/media/IMG_1145_zpsnypciroq.jpg.html)
If I got it right, about an 8 yard shot from the Gap Stand, at first look the shot looked a bit high, but when he was concerned about why it didn't penetrate better , we looked at the other side. The leg bone stopped it in the armpit, so it couldn't have been any better!
-
Congrats Clint!!!
-
Nice buck, congrats!
-
Yeah man, that's awesome!! Congrats Clint!!!
I had a couple good hunts from The Gap stand last fall.....cool spot!
T!!!!!!!! :scared: :campfire:
-
Another buck down and not from the Gap Stand this time!! Pics tonite, gotta go to work, dang it!
-
:campfire: :campfire: :campfire: Congratulations ..... keep the stories coming.
-
Please stop the killing... the horror, the horror!
I show up in a little over a week and I want to shoot one too.
-
Things are picking up for sure!!!! Good times and lots of deer and turkey!! The hard part is finding time to hunt amidst all the laughter!
-
Man I wish I could make it down there...
-
These guys are a blast!! Here is Brian's buck, he had a video with a lighted nock with the shot that was cool as heck too! Congrats Brian!! :clapper:

Congrats!!!! Ok, which stand was it? :dunno:
-
New stand on an oak in east crossing on n place by tree farm. He is a lefty and could shoot from it too;)
-
Congrats guys, Keep the stories coming.
-
That's a good spot. Hunted a hang-on in that crossing last day of our hunt in December. A buck about like that crossed the corner from the tree farm to the cut corn.
Congrats Brian!

Sorry guys! David and crew didn't take any venison home but I think they had a good hunt anyway. Maybe they will be along to fill you in.

-
Pretty cool deal,I've been looking at a game trail thru the CRP on google maps. Showed a young man from MI and he went and made a brush hide on the ground and promptly shot a big doe. Then passed another one tonite in the same spot because some big bucks have been seen going up that draw......
So we have hi tech satellite imagery and a traditional bow in the same story! :biglaugh:
-
Here's some pics Steve just texted me....

Congrats Jake! Outstanding...
-
Nice meat for the freezer. Now get after the big boys.
-
Well we are off Kenny's place and back to reality. What a nice relaxing escape his place is.
No other deer were taken other than the one Kenny posted. As mentioned that doe was taken by Jake Grice, Steve's (jacobs ladder) son. He took her on the ground at about 10 yards from an improvised blind using a pre-existing brush pile. She actually came around the corner and surprised him, forcing him to sit like a statue as she stood only 5 yards away. He let her pass, took advantage of her distraction elsewhere, drew and shot in one motion and put his arrow through her heart. She piled up in the field 50 yards away.
We kinda got this hunt on two threads so I thought I'd post here for those following, but more details will be on the Braveheart's Black Friday thread.
Next group going to Kenny's is gonna have a good time I will tell you that!
-
Great job Jake!
-
Neat, my son and I, and Chad and Jacob will down for Xmas break. We will keep the post up daily.
