Title: Rothhaar Recurves - let's see some pics
Post by: J. Cook on August 24, 2015, 04:30:00 PM
I recently picked up a Rothhaar Recurve and it's quickly become my favorite bow.  It shoots really well and is my first high wrist grip, which I seem to shoot a little better than all my other medium grip bows.  The one I got doesn't have any exotic woods or astonishing looks - but it really shoots great!

Does anyone know much about them - I know by who and when they were made, but don't know anything about if there are different models, lengths, etc.  I searched on here and found a little info, but not much.  Mine is 62" but it only has the specs written on it...nothing about a model name or anything like that.

I got a 2nd pair of limbs with it (57 @ 28) - does anyone have a riser of one laying around that perhaps your limbs broke or something?  I'd love to put that 2nd set of limbs to use too.

In Dan Bertalan's book Bowyers of America...Dan has a section on the Rothaar bow.

The recurves made by Alan Rothhaar were most likely heavily influenced by bows made by Donny Assenheimer.  At the time Alan was making bows in the early 1980's, his uncle Roger was shooting Assenheimer bows.  I recall shooting a few times with Alan in the 1980's in Michigan and the bows he had made and were shooting resembled Assenheimer bows.  They were nice looking and shooting bows.

I believe he made one limb with three separate handle lengths to make a 60, 62 or 64 inch bow.  I killed a lot of deer with mine, but at 60lbs, I don't shoot it much any more.

Okay, I got some pics loaded up.  I got it cleaned up, some new gold tips fletched up, all tuned up, and ready to hunt.  The limbs have the same wood on the belly and the back.  I don't know what they woods are - anyone know by looking?
