I just bought a 1965 Bear Kodiak. How about some pictures of your vintage bows? Also, who makes strings for these old bows?
You can use any string you want with a 1965 Kodiak...take a look at the tips on those limbs and recognize that had there been low stretch strings back then Bear would have used them...I was born in 1951 and Bear had issues with delamination because their bows had aluminum lams...I have not done any homework on other makes...I do collect 1960 Bears with the word Kodiak on them...if you do a search on my username you can see some pictures

Very nice! 1988 anyone lol

I'm so old, any bows that are around from my birth year (1946) are probably in a museum somewhere.
1963 Kodiak. Bought it to hunt with for my 50th. Killed a doe with it that year. Now I have a vintage quiver for it too. Sweet bow that will get more use in the future.

I wonder if they had bows in 1945? If so I doubt it would be shootable.
Yep, I have a Browning Cobra I that is the same vintage as me
Closest I came was a '69 Kodiak Hunter. I'm still looking for the right '68 to come along! Hey Steve, that Super K looks about right!!!
1966 Bear Kodiak mag!!!!! Love it.
A 1951 60" Kodiak. This was a one owner bow when I bought it, and looks like it was never shot. Of course Fred used aluminum from world war II B-52 bombers in the limbs, and not many of these bows are still around today. I would love to string it up and nock an arrow, but will never take that chance. These were really pretty bows with the basket weave limbs, just didn't work out like they were intended to. I guess that makes me about............years old! I forgot to mention I also have the original soft cover for it.
Awesome bows, guys! Wow!
This is mine.

Yes I do. This is a 1953 K4 Static tip Bear Kodiak. It is 64" in length and is approx 58Lbs at my draw. It was built in the year(1953)when I was born. I have not taken a deer with it yet, but hopefully I will take one with it this year. The bow is in very good shape for it's age, and still have the original bear stickers on it. I have shot it quite a bit with no problems, especially with my long draw of 31 1/2".

All of these bows are Beautiful, btw
I've got a 1962 Grizzly 50lbs LH and a 1962 Kodiak 73lbs LH that i can't quite come to full draw on.
No, but now I want one. Thanks a lot. What's a good '84 to look for?
I've been eyeing a couple 1956 Kodiak Specials, but for now 1959 is a close I've gotten...shot my 1959 Gordon Plastics King tonight, in fact.
I've been looking for a 65 Kodiak in lefty. I have a 65 Grizzly.
65 was a good year, wasn't it ;)
For cars, too.
I'm waiting for Ron LaClair to post with a sinew backed self bow and stone point arrows!!!!!
I don't think bows were invented yet. . . .

Here is my '61 K mag I bought off of Ga. Boy here on TGang.
I am in my early sixties and feel fortunate to have my dad's first recurve.
Unfortunately, I don't know how old it is. I do know when I was in first grade my dad traded an old duck boat that had seen better days for this bow. So it's age is very close to my age. It is about 68" long with a straight long bow style grip.
I was just given it by a nephew who thought I should have it. It did not come with a string so I contacted LBR. He seemed pretty knowledgable about these things, and made a string for me.
I have shot it, and it works fine, but I prefer my newer bows for hunting.
I'm right there with you, "imbowhun10", only mine is a 62" Grizzly (1951 with a strip of aluminum).
Amazing how many were born in '51, me also but the oldest bow I have is a '61 KS. But I do like the bows from the 60's well made, and still able to take game.
I was born in '67. I bought a Red Wing Hunter (AMF) know it was probably close to that time frame. Does anyone know when Bob Lee sold to AMF?
I have to disagree with ChuckC. Back when I was born, Genghis Kahn was shooting a pretty strong bow :)
I don't...but I've been wanting an '81 green stripe Bear takedown for a while. Just haven't found one yet.
2 - BEAR 1962' KODIAKS for me,man I love the Brazlian ROSEWOOD in them and they are GREAT shooters,Long fade outs and shorter limb.
Mine is a 59 Bear Kodiak, 59 was a great year !
I'll be using my 1972 kodiak mag for my bear hunt next week. Shot a couple of critters with it already.

Awesome pic, Ron!
Would have to steal it from a museum!
Well, I was born in 59 and a lefty so I had to have a LH 59 Kodiak. I love the looks, history and all, but I don't shoot it worth a darn. I am going to sell it. I have to shoot what I shoot well.
D.P.
Dave, that one will go quick. Wish I were a lefty.
I have a 1969 Super K #55 same age as me.
Don't think they made them back then. ha
1953 Kodiak K4 50#
I need a 1947
Stickbow98 - "Oh yeah, '59 Kodiak... Still sees it's share of action every Fall."
Congrats, nice bow... Was born in 1959 also and would luv to own a '59 Kodiak or '59 Grizzly, which I hope to run across someday...
Question though, was that Bear quiver of the same time period?... Thanks

I have a 67 kodiak hunter. Best year ever. Ha ha
I have a 1955 dual shelf Grizzly Static tip I occasionally shoot. Kinda cool shooting a 60 year old bow.
Anybody have a 1946?
I guess a 59 Bear Kodiak would be in order
