Greetings from Tok! I've been all around the south end of Alaska the last several days and the weather has been superb. Now my wife and I are in Tok as I near the time for caribou in the mountains. Coming up the Richardson Higway I noticed some early fall color in the high country. Moose and caribou are still in velvet. Yesterday we saw a low temp of 33 F in the Chugach. It all combines to quicken the pulse a little and make me long for a leather grip in my bow hand.
Dinner at Fast Eddies and a night in a quiet cabin. Just a few more days until the Cub flies and hopefully so does an arrow.
KD
GOOD LUCK.

Wish you the best

Excellent! I must have missed it - hadn't realized you were hunting caribou this year. Are you then going back up for more next month again? Either way, what a great way to start the best season of the year! Good luck, I'll be watching for details to follow!
Someday. Until then I'll live through you. Good hunting and please post some pics for those of us that long to see that part of our country.

Good Luck! We've spent many a night at Fast Eddie's anticipating the flight into camp the next day. It's hard to sleep. One word of advice though is to stay away from the "fried mushrooms" the night before your flight.
Mike

Many thanks gentlemen. I wish all of you could see and experience the anticipation of late summer in Alaska. My wife and I are still enjoying a vacation here, now settled into a nice private residence outside Fairbanks. Every day is a collage of float-planes, pretty skies, tall spruce, busy people and so much more. It's really a challenge to combine a vacation and hunt, but I think we've done a good job of it. I have to keep the hunter on hold just a few more days as we enjoy this special time. Meanwhile, my 2-pc bow rests quietly in the duffel bag waiting for its turn.
I talked to my pilot and a couple other friends yesterday. The report is good on caribou where I'm going. It's been a very mild year for bugs and the caribou are in excellent condition. Bears are actively hitting the berry fields. I should see some good animals out there.
Thanks again for the wishes. I'd like to send my best wishes to some other TG guys who will be heading this way later. Mike, John and several unnamed others....good hunts to all. KD
Good luck, be safe .... :campfire:
Always take a rifle too no shame in making a 45/70 or 257 weatherby kill if the game to far for a bow sticking, watch Ak game laws remember bring out the meat first than go back for the horns or you will be calling Mama from Jail.
Living the dream! Good luck, Kevin. I'm looking forward to the story.
Hope you have s great hunt Kevin

Just an FYI, this is a traditional bow hunting site. NOT a rifle hunting site. Please be careful with such discussions.
Have a great hunt Kevin!
Kevin best of luck
Good luck Kev, one of these days I'll meet up with ya when you're driving through....hopefully!
Well....the vacation part of this trip is just about complete. We spent a couple days down in Talkeetna and did a great flight into Denali with K2 Aviation. I can't describe what that's like: you just have to do it if you ever get the chance. Landing on a high glacier with a skis-equipped Otter and then getting out amidst all the jagged peaks produces a sensation of being out of body. Enough. Now it's time to hunt.
Weather is superb for now. Caribou are just where they should be. No other hunters anywhere close to my drop point. Gear is ready. I'm first out tomorrow morning in the plane. Ready for it, too. I'm going through the mental adjustment of ending vacation and saying goodbye to my wife who heads home...I will really miss her...as my thoughts turn to big caribou and maybe a black bear.
See you on the other side of this. Thanks.
Man, that sounds like fun! Good Luck!
Good luck Kevin, may your arrow find it's mark.
Tina and my son Zach and I leave on the 20th of Sept. and fly back on 2 Oct.
We will be hunting moose.
Cheers Abe
Good luck Kevin and safe travels. Looking forward to hearing of your adventure.
This is gonna be good stuff. Kevin is one hell of a good story teller.
I'm in!! :coffee:
Good luck Kevin for this other adventure.
