Here's my new Schafer Silvertip longbow I received this past Friday.
RH 66" one piece
Rosewood Dymondwood handle
Bamboo limb core stained Rosewood
Eastern Diamondback skins on the back
Koa Venners on the belly.
Elk Antler tips
Total Price including shipping, handling and federal excise tax: $1405.00, and a 15 month wait.
This bow is a beautiful bow with superb workmanship, the fit and finish is top notch. I have shot maybe 100 + arrows through it over the weekend, and maybe I need a little more time to evaluate the bow, but so far, it's a step down from my Toelke whip, Black Widow, or my Fox Triple Crown, not to mention my JD Berry's.

Ask to send it back, not all bows work for everyone.
Man. That is a ton of money for a 1 piece! Bill
I would not hesitate to call Dave. He's a square guy.
Dave probably doesn't want to hear the bow doesn't perform to Bruce's expectations provided it cant be attributed to workmanship. Everyone is gonna have a favorite bow. Looks like a good build to me save for the duct tape grip
That's not duct tape, it's sure grip.
I know pal I just couldn't pass up the chance. You have a fine stick and I truly hope it works out for you.

It's a keeper, I never said I didn't like it.
Nice looking anyway. Reminds me of a Morrison Dakota I once owned. You know, hey tend to depreciate by at least 50% once they leave a bowyer? I could probably come up with $700.00 if it would help a brother out. :knothead:
Just fooling with ya, keep at it and you may grow fond of it before long.
Gorgeous Schafer gone'. Not many of these get showcased and it's nice to see one get the limelight rather than a recurve for a change.
What specifically is a step down?--speed,yes? These bows are not as radical in limb profile as some of the others out there, but they certainly should do what a longbow should. It is a Schafer, so it ought do everything you ask it to save for be a speed demon. Gorgeous veneers btw.
Just a darn fine r/d longbow any way you look at it. With Paul's legacy attached. Gotta love that.
Based on the list of bows in your sig and this ome and your assessment I think a Stewart Slammer would be a good next natural choice when youre ready to try something new or do a new build.
Enjoy the Tip! Damn lovely.

This is a damn fine assessment. The Silver Tip flagship is the recurve in my humble opinion and while these long bows excel in the attention to detail department, they are not as high performance and radical as a Toelke of which the R&D long bow is their flagship bow for good reason.
That is an awesome bow! I have two of Daves recurves, identical except for poundage.
Gonna choke up the money for a Schafer longbow eventually. Question though; the longbows Daves own brainchild? Or did Paul design this LB too? Just wondering. Maybe this is a "Windauer" longbow!
If I was wanting speed and radical I would go to wheels?
Beautiful stick!

We are all different...if it feels like a step down to you then it's a step down. I shot a buddy's one piece Widow, owned a Toelke Whip and a JD Berry. Once I shot a Tomahawk Diamond SS one piece they all felt second rate at best to me. Others would disagree for sure. It's a beautiful bow...enjoy it.
I had a 62 inch version of that bow, a length that Dave only made a few of...I would say the tips were a bit smaller on mine...I drew it to about 30 inches and it was a great performer with an SBD string...I sold it back to the original owner when he contacted me to ask if I would do so...I wish I still had that bow...mine had Dave's amazing checkering which is well worth the cost in my opinion
DDave
Maybe your expectations were too high. I've done that to myself before. :dunno:

I have one in my stable, so I know what your talking about.
What 9worlds said, very well stated. Be proud of that bow! I would be...
I just had my new 62" Blacktail Columbian longbow arrive. I have an Elite VL and this longbow is no speed demon in comparison. But it's only 43#s at 28". Besides being a work of art, I probably shoot it better than any other bow I own. A friend with a 30" draw shot it and he couldn't get over how smooth, stack hand shock free it was. Speed aint everything. I bet the more you shoot it, the closer it will come to taking that step up to your other bows.
